I'll agree it looks like a very bad design - unstable, dangerous, ugly, etc. However, I question your statement: "why not just ride forward like the rest of the biking population?" . I wonder if anyone ever said that when snowboarding first came along? I mean really - isn't is just a little silly to go flying down a hill sideways instead of forward like the rest of the skiing population?

Thing I don't like about it - presumably if you're gonna commute with this thing (cause you'd die on the Shore  ) you're gonna have a real sore neck from looking over your shoulder while you ride with your head 90 degrees to your body.
Snowboarding you are constantly moving and changing direction, hence so is your head.
Although on that thing you may just be looking down all the time waiting for it to fall apart:D

the only way that would be cool, was if you could pedal along forwards...

snowboarding was derived from succesful sports like surfing and skateboarding that bike looks dangerous could you imagine falling on your back its no wonder he is wearing a helmet in the parking lot. I mean kudos to him for figuring it out as I like engineering but again that looks stupidly dangerous. Not to mention crossing the road you would have to look at least 180 to see if traffic was coming
