Hey all,

I am getting a set of CK hubs and am seriously considering getting a tubeless set of rims to match.
I am wondering what results people have had running tubeless wheelsets.
Also, what rims are you using and what tires? Do you use the Stan's notubes stuff as well?

Right now I am running Mavic 321s and I love them. I am looking for something with the durability and strength of the 321s but tubeless.

Please only reply if you have actual experience with a tubeless set up, or know someone who is using them and how they like them.

Thanks.

As I mentioned in this thread:

http://bb.nsmb.com/newforum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27225

I run Mavic 321s with Stans kit in them and Michelin rubber, it works amazing. Less weight, rolls faster, you can run less pressure for better grip, it NEVER flats, and of course you get the puncture resistance as well. It doesn't lose air, either, like a lot of people seem to say about tubeless.

Disadvantages... Getting the tire on and sealed initially is a pain in the rump. Therefore, maintenance tasks such as replacing broken spokes or mangled nipples that require you to break the bead and pull the tire off are also a pain.

I noticed that my Michelins sit flatter across the crown, effectively making them a little bit wider and flatter, when you run without a tube. The difference isn't much, but it was just enough for me to notice it when tryinf to squeeze my front wheel into my bike rack.

Bottom line: I suggest Stan's to everyone interested in tubeless. It's a great conversion kit. Tubeless itself is freaking awesome, I can't say enough good things about it.

what is the cost of the kit?
I am really interested in running this setup,or the setup that was stickied on the old boards but later nuked by accident.
I am going to do a bit of research on the site, but i am worried that my rims/tires will not be compatible.
thanks for the info grimjack..

It's about $62 USD for the kit. Go to his website to check your exact cost:

So far, it seems to be compatible with every tire or rim on the market, as long as they are still 26 inch.

i ran 3.1 mavics all summer with mich comp 16's. i got a really annoying slow leak in the front which needed pumping every day, but the rear was pumped up twice all year. apparently there are maxxis tubeless now which i may try next year.

i ran the ghetto tubeless setup (can tire sealant over a 20" bmx tube) which made tires a bitch to get on and off. i think better sealant that doesn't harden would be the best, next to maybe the stan's setup. it did the job though - no leaks either at fortune or bromont several times. any rim will do.

by the way, other guys i raced with had trouble with punctures with mich tires with no sealant. i didn't.

As I mentioned in this thread:

Yeah, I read that thread. It doesn't really apply to what I am looking for.
I should be more specific.

I want to know about people using tubeless rims, NOT people running Stan's on non-tubeless rims.
I am looking for information about people's experience with Mavic 3.1s etc. Or any other tubeless rim.

Aha! I see. I reread your post and saw the reference to Stans sealant only - I thought you were referring to the entire system.

Tough to comment on the sealant. It appears to work, I never have to pump up my tires, and I suppose it might have sealed some punctures without me noticing. It's one of those things that you don't know it's working until something else fails.

I did the ghetto tubeless thing, worked amazingly for a few months, Then the goopy stuff ran out/dried up and I got 2 flats very quickly. I plan on setting it up again for next race season, as its not really worth the hassel in the winter.

I decided to go with Stan's after hearing nothing but good things from a buddy of mine who's gone over a year without a flat. That and the rotten luck I have with flats; I'll go for three months without one then get five in a week. I once got two flats within 50 yards of the trailhead!

Two days after getting everything setup (an hour and a half job, but now that I know what to do, it's more like 30 minutes) I was riding at our local freeride mecca/city park and managed to cut the casing of my brand new 2.24" Mutanoraptor bad enough that the Stan's sealant wouldn't seal it. I had to break the bead and put a glue-on patch on the inside of the tire. It was really my dumbassity, though; I rode off the wrong part of a 3' rock ledge straiht into a big puddle full of small sharp rocks. Just a case of temporary spatial dislocation.

Oh, and carry a CO2 inflation system to reinflate Stan's-converted tires. Its much easier than a floor pump.

Please read my post. I do NOT want to know about Stan's tubeless or how to ghetto-tubeless your bike. I don't really care about the sealent etc.

I want to know about rims that use the tubeless system. I want to know about people's experience using a UST set of rims. Mavic 3.1s, Bontragers, Crossmax, etc.

I am interested in getting a set of tubeless rims for DH/FR and want something with the same strength and reliability as a Mavic 321. Does anyone have any experience with something like that?
