if your making rungs out of cedar do you use an axe and a hammer and split the wood. if there are any other ways please tell me.

check this thread...if you dont have a froe you can always use a splitting wedge or whatever.

I jsut boguht a splitting axe from canadian tire, it's like a wedge but it's a 6 pound axe. it was only 16 bucks becuz it was half price.

i use a hatchet, i think that is what works best but use whatever works 4 u

I've been using a sledge and an old axe head that's very fat, one hit and it's done, as long as theres no knots and it's reasonably dry.

i also think that a hatchet and sledge are better than a wedge and sledge, but a froe is hands down the best way to go

the only problem with the froe is it doesnt like knots very much. then again neither does teh splitting head or ax

on our trail we used a big steel wedge....works great...hit it with the blunt end of the axe to start then finish it with the axe alone...Cheers, nelson
When spitting logs i use an axe cause of knots, but with large stocks of cedar i use a wedge

on second thought...dont make ladders...use natural landscape features (rock rolls/drop, steeps, NATURAL log rides)....much more impressive and funner to ride
