I'm looking for a good trail bike, something for moderate hits (Sideshow size hits) but something that isnt toolong and sloppy, so it will ride Seymour and a bit of tighter Fromme trails. I also hope to ride a bit Whistler next year. Frame needs to be rather small, and ride well. Fork on there will be one of 3, Shiver, Super T, or Monster T. I'm not a incredibly heavy rider, but I'm rather hard on equipement.
I'm comming from a 2002 Shore, any suggestions?

Banshee Chaparral :). I believe what you are looking for was the EXACT intended purpose for the bike. Pip rides it so it must be cool :)

and an 03 or 04 Slider up front, best combo ever.

Yah I like Chaparral but I'm not sure if it would last to some of the drops that it might be subject to, where as the Scream might be a bit heavier than what I'm looking for.

Any other suggestions?

I would be willing to bet the Chap can take anything a trail bike will ever be needed for. The Chap with a Romic is where it's at.

Yah, I would look into that, but the price is probably going to be way out there. Any idea on the price?

Forget the Banshee....get a Bullit or the V8 maybe..RMXs but the price will be so high so maybe the lower ones...that new devinci or even a BB7. Those are what i would consider...right now the market is good on some good used shit so look dude.

I really like BB7's, but how do they perform on some tighter stuff?
Santa Cruz bikes are nice but there too expensive...

Give me a reason for the Bullit instead of the Banshee. And you think a V8 will cost less than an RMX, I doubt it. The V10 is one of the most expensive frames on the market, the V8 won't be far behind methinks.

Chapparal with either 6/7" Slider with SPV damping(unless you don't want it) and a Progressive or Romic Spring(or anything with "SPV damping) and it'll climb decently and will have tons o fun on the way down

Thats my personal pref....i tried/owned a scream and didnt like it much...Bullit is pretty much proven everywhere but whatever let this guy decide but if it were me i would got for a bullit in a heart beat.
V8 will be pretty close to the RMXs (high end one) because rockys are also a lot. I didnt say a V8 will cost more or less and it dont matter anyway because they will be pretty close. YOur right about 1 thing though...the V8 wont be far behind the V10. It will be in between a Bullit and V10 for sure.

But back on topic here dude...bikes i would consider...
BB7, Bullit, V8, New Decinci, RMX and you can find some pretty high end stuff on the B&S for cheap right now but its up to you

your reasoning against the RMX was because the prices would be so high. Oh well. What didn't you like about your Scream?

I'd say a Chaparral, RMX, BB7. Buy the frame only and build it up like a dream bike :)

SC aren't expensive dame, plus the small bullit is perfect for you. Face it, your always going to go bigger or else you wouldn't be looking for a new bike and still ride the trails;)

Chap all the way...mine rules! Even with a 5" SC on it, perfect heavy trail bike, beefier than a bullit IMO, and the suspension with a Romic is titiies, big titties exposed showing nipple titties...

Met a guy this weekend on the CHianti red chap, it is sooo sweet, has black linkage plates, he was running a Jr T and railing it...

I hadn't seen that color yet, it is beautiful and the black plates are blingin', shoo, foo.

ya...

the chap

with a 6/7 inch DC ...

I have to wait a while on upgrading my fork.

I know 8 people now that have purchased a scream / chap / morphine in or around town ( eugene OR )over the summer... all of them LOVE their bikes and swear by them...

No reports of any breakage... not a crack ... nothing!

and all of them have broken a bike or 2 in the past...

so haters can shizzle the nizzle fo shizzle foo's!

Team Big Hit rules, best all round big bike IMO. Just ask IFO.

Why not a Big Hit, RM Switch or a Yeti ASX. All would pedal fairly well and be capable of doing things like Sideshow.

Bullit 1200 U.S.D. retail, VpFree 1600 U.S.D. retail.

VpFree available sometime around spring a good while off.

Bullit, does the job, not a hefty bike and is very simple to maintain.

I'm on a '03 Big Hit DH and love it

BB7 would probably be too long for the riding on the shore, but I have never ridden the shore so what do I know..........

Scream is understandable that you are not a big dude so would not want the extra weight of the Scream.

Chapparal woud probably not get along to well with sessions on "Sideshow" I believe the Scream is recommended for this type of riding.

someone else mentioned the Devinci, I know nothing about it, and do not know it's ride quality but it looks 10 times better than any other Devinci product prior to this bike. (looks like it could be a nice bicycle)

another Norco Shore?

just some thoughts...........

I'd go Big Hit, Bullit, Shore, maybe Devinci?

you know what I'd choose overall. (BIG HIT!)

if you got time to wait and all that maybe think about the VpFree or a Demo9 w/ a 24

Edit: really, why would you have a picture of cooch?

I know people are going to defend the BB7 but they are NOT good shore bikes like I've said before I own both a BB7 and a Big Hit and have ridden both on the shore. The BB7 is good for super fast choppy runs they don't like to jump and are not good for wheelie dropping just to damn long, the chain stays are over 18".
They can be ridden on the shore but why would you pay good money for a bike that was designed specifically for DH racing. You don't see motorcyle trials guys riding a CR 250 do you although I'm sure one could be ridden a trials course but why it's not designed for that type of riding.
Screams are great bikes although if your a light person you don't need that burly of a frame.
The new VpFree from Santa Cruz looks like it'll be a killer trail bike.
There are a ton of worthy bikes to choose from just dtry not to get caught up in someone elses mistake i.e.
They bought a big DH bike and have convinced themself it makes a great trail/shore bike so they try and sell everyone else on how great it is.

Bikes are like skis...unless you actually ride the bike, set-up "close" to how you would have it and on the trails you want to ride.....you won't know which you would like best to own.

Talk to shops and friends and demo a few...that's the only way.

Good luck...:thepimp:

Holy, thanks for all this input! Some helpful information. I'm going to set my Shore up with a Monster and see how it rides. If I dont like it, I might just sell frame and fork and get some bike I will like. Thanks for all the information, and keep it coming.

How about Gemini. Seeing a lot more on the trails here. Great specs for good price. Easy maintenance single pivot like the Bullitt but way less money and proven at Red Bull and more to take the hits.

If you want to start with a frame I just picked up a Balfa 2-step ('01 I think) brand new at Cap's in Langley for $1000. They pedal really well and mine measure out to a little over 5.6 inches of travel
