well sometime in like grade 7 or 8 i managed to injure my back somehow, and it seems to have gotten worse after getting more agressive with riding my hardtail.

So it got me thinking, would switching to a full suspension in the near future end up helping the pain at all? or should i take this to a doctor?

If you don't know how you hurt your back, and just know its getting worse.

I think you should talk to a doctor before you go shopping for a f/s

I compacted my spine a few years ago in a biking accident.
i went through alot of chiro and physio,as well as getting custom orthodix to align my back properly.
it is definately something to look into.My chiropractor reccomended i get a FS frame.i did,and my back was looking good, then i had the stupid idea to get a hardtail since my back was feeling better.
after 3 rides on the hardtail,i traded it back for a dually, and i havn't looked back so far.

The most important thing to do is get a bike that fits you, IMHO anyways.

I ride a 23" for my XC bike (I am 6'6") and a Large VPS launch for my freeride machine and I can say without a doubt my back hurts more after I ride the norco (even if I am just out on a casual ride) thean it does on my kona. I wish I could find a bigger freeride bike that I could afford...

So if you got back problems get someone that knows what they are doing to size your bike for you (not just frame size but bar/stem and seat for/aft) and make sure they are selling you what fits you, not what they have loads of in stock and wanna dump ASAP.

Thats my opinion anyways

im fine when i ride my HT, well it is the only thing i have to ride. but i guess if u have been riding hardtail for 4 yrs, ur body gets used to it

I jumped on the FS wagon 3yrs ago for the same reason, my lower back would kill after an hour on the trail. Since I've gone FS my back never gets sore and I've done 24hr races.
I can't see how it would cause you more harm, good luck.

It might be a good investment, UNLESS!! when you get the fs you start riding MORE aggressively! :)

I got a big hit pro last summer to ride whistler and shore with and it was soooo nice going over the bumps...fs is definitely worth it...

I could have got a pimp hardtail, but instead I got a used big hit and it made things so much easier...

ht=back pain in 30 minutes max.
fs = raced all this year and freerode all last year with no back pain.

see your md, but i bet it will help with a fs

ps. i have nothing for sale

Yeah I deffinetly agree all I was trying to say is that a poorly fitting DS will IMHO make your back hurt more than a good fiting hardtail.

i think that is an excellent point. i have ridden some bikes that seemed to fit really well, and others that never feel quite right. a well fit one is fun. an ill fitting one is one you can't wait to get off. you need to get somebody to help you, because with a bad back, the fit is critical. good luck. you have a common problem unfortunately.

I messed up my back in gr. 8 I'm now in grade 10 and just started riding an ht and I've noticed alot more pain then when riding my dualie..I think it helps but It also depends on what you are doing.

Ive got a cracked and slipped vertabrae with two bulging disks, so I sold the hardtail and have no problems with the full suspension. so far so good, thank God for the chiropractor and my new bullit.
