If I add 4mm of oil to my shiver dc, will I actually see a difference in the bottoming out resistance?

yes, well maybe depending on how bad it was bottoming to begin with. If you are at the correct oil height right now, adding 4 or 5 mm will definitely affect the progressiveness of the fork.

Do you think I risk blowing my seals now or should I still be ok?
as long as u dotn go to far above the stated oil limit u shouldnt blow seals...
but if u go to far above it then u def. could "pop" a seal... and barf oil.....

I run significantly more than 4mm more oil in mine and it is fine. F.I.N.E fine in fact.

Mulletron, is your oil level over 75 mm? Also when Im done how do I get the air out of the fork? there is this silver thing next to the preload adjuster and is that used to get the air out? thanks.

10% above recommended height is OK. So if you're at 90mm, taking it to 80mm would be fine.
