So Im working on an idea to make a floating brake for my scream. Right now I have a design that bolts on the outside onto a standard XT hub with Pips bolt on conversion kit. There are a few things to iron out in the basic design. One major hurdle is making a system that can be removed from the wheel without having to disassemble the caliper, this is again using the xt hub. I think i can do a design that has a 2 piece arm that has to be taken apart to get the wheel off. But if I had a thru axle i could make it one piece like a hadley/super 8 kit is. Problem is the only bolt on thru axles i see are 12mm, and the scream is a 10mm dropout. I wouldnt want to go machining off parts of my frame for something thats not even proven to work, or make any difference (most people thing the scream isnt effected by braking to begin with).

Its a winter tinkering project i wanna do. Any thoughts?

Hadley 10mm thru axle.

They are where it's at dude. You could use a Chris King fun-bolt hub, but it won't work out.

Hadley is probally the only way to go.

Cool, I saw your other post on RM. Thanks. Im looking into the hadley for sure. If i can make a ghetto version of a floater that makes a difference maybe ill progress and look at doing it with the hadley hub. Either way i should be running somthing better than the XT, but heck its cheap and easy to maintain.

When you finish one, send me one and I'll do some testing for you for free ;). I'll do the hadley testing, and you can do the XT testing...

get 1 of these hubs

and u don't need to shave dropouts as my hub fits my Scream no problem! (just shave 1,5mm off each opposite face of the thick washers that go under the large locknuts so the washer freely slide up the dropout.

u can get this hub from Gusset Bikes (English brand) if you find a shop selling Gusset Pigmy cromoly cranks, or Identiti Dr. Jekyll frames they can get the "Gusset Jury" hub

with 12mm solid cromoly axle machined to 10mm for dropout flat, huge locknuts and washers, 4 sealed bearings, double width cromoly double width pawl and ratchets, only GBP £70 so much cheaper than Hope. heavy at 600gm but strong as hell

That's a solid axle dude. Not what he wants. Hadley weighs half of that, makes the Scream super stable, has 108 clicks per revoloution, and is a true Thru axle 10mm hub. And it's worth its weight in butter.

lol, yes. I say the same thing on both boards. Why? So people here, and people there can read it. Input from 2 different worlds.
