...i want to use it for a street bike, but i want to give it a good run down, first. Is there a re-build kit i can buy? Any other advice for reviving old forks? the fork is in great shape.

I hear that man. :(
Just change the oil and cycle it through a few times until it's clean, then put fresh oil in again! Unless the internals are broken?

no the internals are fine. i'd like some stiffer springs, though, and heavier oil. where can i get that kind of crap?

It's like a rebuild kind of thing that a shop can do to make sure that everything is fine. Like they note down everything wrong with the fork. I just cant remember what it's called:(
... looking at it?

Your local bike shop.
A MX shop can help you for oil probably if you bike shop can't, but I wouldn't be trusting an bike shop that doesn't have oil / doesn't know how to change oil.

If the seals haven't been changed in some time, changing them, and the oil, will make a noticeable performance difference.
You can change the oil yourself pretty easy. You only need a socket to take the top caps off the stanchions, pull the springs out, dump the old oil (pump the forks to get all the old oil out), put new oil in (pump the forks a couple times while doing it) to the correct height, put the springs back in, and put the top caps back on.

Bike shop. Those springs are as common as they come. If you want rally stiff, get the green springs.

Oh, ok.
I live in a very BMX oriented part of the world. No MTB at all. So, i don't get access to all the little things that you guys do from living in a bike town... like knowing that springs are common.
i am sure i'll have to mail order. but, if i call and ask, it shoud be pretty straight forward?
green is "really stiff"? what is just "stiff". i weigh 160, and i ride street. it's rare that i get out to trails nowadays. when i do, its on a sherman, anyway.

Take the top cap off one of the stanchions and pull out the spring. It should have a dab of paint on it (usually at an end). Let us know what the colour is, and we can tell you what are your options. If you do this, then do the same for the other fork leg (the stanchions will drop right into the lowers). Measure the distance from the top of the stanchions to the oil. It should be 45mm.
The red springs are heavy, and the green are extra heavy.

Oh, and you do have the coil version of the fork, and not the air? Just wondering because the Z3 came in coil and air.

First, read the last paragraph on this (http://www.marzocchi.com/template/detailSPATecharea.asp?IDFolder=164&LN=UK&Sito=usa&IDOggetto=2801) page. Upgrade capability for your current fork.
Then check out this (http://www.cambriabike.com/forks&shock/fork_parts_and_accessories-pg1.htm) page. Scroll down to the Marzocchi section.
