well, in the begining my brakes on my bmx didnt work, but i think i have realized the problem, maybe its the pads { i have just baught new ones and will see if they work on tuesday } but im pretty sure its the springs, cause when i squeeze the lever one side doesnt come back all the way like the other which gives me an awkward leverl feel and in the end a worse stopping power.

so i have a few questions

1: could bad springs be the problem or is my brakes just crap

2: { today i ordered some products from 3ride.com and they have replacement springs for 990's [ i run 996 hombres ] and i asked the telephone lady if the replacemnet springs for teh 990's would work on mine, and she said most likley no } so are all replacement springs the same???

3: if they are different, where should i look to get some springs

4: my bottom gyro plate is crooked and pulls up crookedley, would this also make my brakes stop worse?

5: on 3ride.com some pads say threaded, and some say not-threaded, what is the difference?

and finally: i run rhino lights on my bmx, they have silver walls, but that does not make them chrome right??? i dont know much about bmx's so what are chrome rims and what do they have different than regular rims???

i know i'm asking alot, but anyhelp will be greatly appreciated.

i apologize for my bmxing illteracy :)

cheers'

BMX brakes = crap. Basicly. Tighten the cabels on your gyro to even the bottom plate, and it is all basicly just fucking with stuff to tweak it right. For better braking, lose the gyro and just run a long cabel, ill be doing that soon aswell.

Dont listen to this guy. I run a gyro and my brakes work damn good. you need 990 springs. 996 springs wont work. almost any shop should have 990 springs in stock. You have to get tension in both sides and on both springs even, so that the calipers both pull evenly. Dont get the tension too tight either. Grease and lube your cables really well. I cant really explain how to tweak your gyro it is hard to explain but easy to do, Have someone around you who rides BMX help you with the gyro, just keep the cables lubed and the springs not too tight and your brakes will work like a champ

K, as for my gyro coment, from what i was told, running cable w/o gyro works better, if im wrong, sweet, cuz i love my gyro. But when my bottom gyro plate was lose, it was because my 2 lower cable screws were to lose, i just tightened them and it was better. Maybe you can help me actually, im looking for bars that were made by we the people, can find them anywhere, they are like, really small bars and i liked em, know any online stores that have a good selection of bars?

www.danscomp.com or www.albes.com

You can get a Gyro to work good. My gyro works better than most straight cables. you just have to know what your doing.

yah, bmx brakes work awesome, if set up right, have better street stopping power than most hydros  and if the gyro is set up properly, the brake will work just the same as a straight cable.

I ran dual cables off of my gyro (down to the brakes. One cable per brake side. I ran Evolvers).

I could outbrake any straight cable with better modulation and more adjustability.

go to www.dragonfly.de (I think that's the site. It's the site for Dragonfly bikes, they are SICK bikes, I'm sure they are still around). They have all kinds of tech tips.

My 990's have more power and modulation than any vee brake I've ever used. And I fiddled with my vee brakes forever, I rarely touch my bmx brakes. Getting rid of the gyro won't do much to improve brake quality, just get it setup right. Make sure the bottom plate pulls evenly.
