View Full Version : The Camraderie

Sometimes camraderie is great. Bikers are usually pretty cool people and riding lifts is a great way to meet other riders.

But sometimes the chit-chat can get to be a bit much. Especially at Whis - there's always someone who wants to know about your bike, or how often you ride the Park. Its a crowded place, you expect it and you accept it, usually with a forced smile or generic response.

Other places, like Fromme, are a refuge. When you deal with people all day, sometimes its really nice to have peaceful ride where you're left to your thoughts. People passing by and saying hi aren't bothersome, but when someone conveniently decides to tag along on your solo ride, thats annoying.

I guess what I'm getting at is that there is a fine line between being friendly and intruding on someone else's solitude.

Yeah Fromme is the best :) . I agree with you... if the rider doesn't offer for you to join them then I think you really have to ask before just tagging along...

I couldn't agree more, I was out the other day by myself on the BIG HIT with clips so I could get a work out and still hammer through the crap if I wanted to.
Anyway I'm paddling up this little hill and really enjoying the solo ride. At the top I run into a bunch of XC riders, about 10, who had no clue as to what I was riding, their reactions where as if they had never seen a big bike up close before, it was cool tho, they asked a bunch of typical questions, like the the travel, the cost, the weight. After some small talk I decide I wanted to ride, bid my good byes and off I went. Next thing I know I'm being followed by the lot of them, they want to see how much this "big bike" can handle so after some riding and more stoping and talking which by this time is starting to get to me 'cause I went out on my own so I wouldn't have to talk to anyone. I decide to peel off down this steep knarly rock chute, as I roll the edge I'm aprehensive cause I had no gear on except my cranium cover and gloves but I figured this is how I was going top be able to ride on my own. It worked all I could hear as I roll the edge and disapear into the foliage is wholly crap, etc.ect.
Ahhh the versatility of a full on squish and having the ability to ride it.
Long live solo rides.

I hate that, but when your with a ton of people, and only one guy is following you guys around its no big deal. But when its solo its much more uncomfortable.

I kinda like the idle chit chat. meeting new people who ride is always a great thing. Unless there some mouthy kid. When ever I ride with the krew theres so much yappin going on. It makes the ride fun

Theres nothing like seeing your buddies from the chair and giving them a "YOU BIG BITCH" for luck.

It's funny when rippin up to the first jump on A-Line, and I hear from the chair "HEY BIKEZONE!"

I yell back "FUCK YOU DARCY!"

It's all good fun.

It's also good to yell "GIVE 'ER!!!!" from the lift at random people riding down A-Line. It lets them know you're watching, and they bust out over the jump. Then you can boo the n00bs that completely roll it. "I SAID GIVE 'ER!"

I usually ask if i can tag along but usually if its on a trail I don't know. That way I can get a feel for the pace of the trail without having to stop at every stunt to take a peek. But I know what you mean about solitude. It's more than a Black Sabbath tune.

yeah i've never had a better ride than one by myself, even when i raced in an epic xc race last weekend, i enjoyed riding by myself than with someone, who may have been even slowing me down.

if we want to ride with a group or go on a ride where we chat all the time, we'll organize it ourselves and have fun doing it, but havin that tag along always behind you is a pain in the butt

Yah I can image where you're coming from, but its gunna be that day when you go flying off a drop break yourself. Then see how long it takes for someone to come by :P

It took 16 minutes to be exact. I timed it. The first guy that came across my broken body actually took off after a few minutes because he "had to meet somebody."

However, every one of the dozen or so riders who came afterwards was cool and stayed with me until the next group of riders came.:)
