3rd Annual G.K. RIPPER 2003
presented by Tantalus Bike Shop

It's the third annual G.K. Ripper Puke or Bleed Fundraiser, Sunday October 5th 2003. Meet at the bottom of Diamond Head Road at 2:00 p.m. Cost is $20.00 per person. There will be a huge party afterwards with D.Js food, beer, door prizes, raffle draws and silent auction items, bring your skill and your cash cause this one's gonna ROCK!
As usual, top riders will be showing up the show off, competing for bragging rights, above and above all, raise some cash for each other in times of need all while being continuously heckled by Graham.
For the third instalment of this epic event, Team Tantalus is once again calling you out. We want the best of both worlds, blood doping, 0xygen sucking, leg pumping x-country climbing machines matched up with dope-riding, gravity sucking, arm pumping DH adrenaline masochists to form a bottom to top to bottom relay race team up Diamond Head Road and down 19th Hole, Pe-Nut's Wild ride, The Blockade and Pseudo Psugo. Get ready to either Puke or Bleed.
As with previous G.K. Ripper events this is a fundraiser. This year; however, there is a new twist. Graham Kuerbis has usually been the recipient of the funds raised at this race, originally put on to help with his own physical rehabilitation and special equipment needs, things didn't look all that great for Graham that first year after his accident in which he shattered his C-5 vertebrae rendering him an incomplete quadriplegic. G.K. didn't just sit around though, hell no! He got back up and walked! While Graham doesn't ride much, he can still bust a pretty mean manual. This year G.K. decided to set up a "Fallen Rider's Fund", it is designed to help out like affected athletes. Those who find themselves with amongst other ways can be hard to deal with financially.
While support in the past has been great, with compassion pouring out of everyone in the same way that sweat poured from his or her brows in competition, this year is a little different. Something dawned on all those who have been involved with The G.K. Ripper. These past few years since Graham's spinal injury is an all too common result of the sport of mountain biking. The fact that this sort of accident could happen to anyone of us or one of our friends was made clear, that's just the way it goes.
This Fallen Rider's Fund, will be in place so that injured athletes (not necessarily Mountain Bikers) who need financial help to simply pay the phone bill or to buy a wheel-chair can apply for some monetary or special equipment relief as well as the set up of this fund, a good portion of the money raised will be donated to spinal cord injury research and to better the quality of like for those who have been hurt like Graham.
So, warm up, ride up, shake it out and let it hang out. The third annual G.K. Ripper Puke or Bleed, is on!

I had to miss the race due to my buddy messing his ankle up on a ride on Saturday. He was my puker and I didn't have enough time to find a replacement.
I'll be there next year.
