View Full Version : New trail off Hyannis

Some kids have decided to build there own trail off of Hyannis with little thought to the environment or even how to build. The kids, if seen, need to understand a few simple rules on trail building. Mostly this trail needs to be dismantled and hopefully forgotten before some hikers find it and report it making the rest of the Mtn bike community suffer for it.
Problems with it include: nailing into live trees, possibly cutting down of live trees, poor workmanship (won't last long). It's also in a high traffic area and would be noticed very quickly if people actually started to ride it bringing the wrath of the district or whoever.
Anyways if anyone knows any more about the "builders" and can talk with them, perhaps they can dismantle their trail themselves. I'm not trying to be a kill joy - just trying to keep the peace so we don't lose any leverage we might have earned with the district etc.

Yes, in the same area where you can access the BP trail. The Hyannis trail crosses paths with Bridal Path before it reaches the Powerlines. Then you cross the graffiti-covered bridge and you're at the bottom of Ned's.

Hang-on Rob...let's find out who they are first, talk to them and then dismantle as appropriate.
We can then encourage them to participate in maintaining and building as appropriate on other existing trails and to learn from other experienced people.
If we just go in and rip it up, that just gives them and others an excuse to either become totally turned-off to good efforts and may lead to unwanted tit-for-tat and vandelism.
That's just my old years of wisdom talking....PD
will just taking this stuff down be enough?
i think talking to the kids would so some good.. show them how to do it the right way and give them something to do maybe?
going from experience if something is torn down, it will likely be rebuilt and maybe worse than before

And appreciated. :)
Makes sense. I have to go into Neds anyways, so I'll have a look and try and find out who's doing this.
It sure would be nice to get them to help out on Neds, Bridal, or Will's Way. There's a lot of room in there for a playground.
