View Full Version : Tubes On Trees??????????

WHY do people insist on putting blown inner tubes on tree's ??? I don't even want an answer cause it is probably goin to be stupid anyway. People a tube left behind is GARBAGE no two ways about it. Most people don't leave power bar wrappers, juice containers, kleenex, etc but the one thing that I see on trails are blown tubes.

The old saying goes "Pack out what you pack in" don't leave your shit behind. The woods are a place where we have the fortunate privilage to enjoy so don't go about wreaking it by leaving your garbage behind.

I rode CBC today and saw that once again a tube was hanging off a tree like some macho right of passage memerobilia, everyone gets flats.

The more ammo for people that want biking off the shore and out of the woods all together, the better for thier cause and increases the incline of our uphill battle.

So folks DON'T LEAVE YOUR TUBES HANGING OFF TREES !!!!!!!

If anyone can give me one good excuse for doing so then I will kick them in the dink. If you don't have a dink I have a blown tube fresh from the trees that I can shove up you ass.

theres always garbage being left behind from riders. Theres a tube in the tree on old buck at the bp junction. if your bringing a spare tube , this must mean you have room to bring the flat one out with you.

Sometimes I have gotten a nice nasty gash in my sidewall. I covered it up with an old tube I had in my pack.

When you get a nasty gash in your sidewall, and have to patch the tube, what are you going to cover the tear with? The tube hanging from the tree could save you a hell of a hike out of the woods...

and the prize for dumbest reply of the day goes to.................................BAC5.2

if there is any kind of litter than can traced directly to a MTBer I think a tube tops the list. In our sensitive world you'd think peeps would be smarter.

for the record I was in Pemby last week with Schley, and like a 1" square of wrapper fell out of my pocket. He thought I saw and left it, and he tore me a strip. i thought that was cool cuz we were inthe middle of no-where, and it was so small, LITTER SUX

Tie the tube around your toptube or something.
Just because its not touching the ground, it doesnt mean it isnt garbage.

Carry a sidewall patch. Park makes them, MEC sells them.

I remember something about patching a sidewall in bike magazine. Can't you use nearly anything like a dollar bill? Well when they still existed that is.:P

Amen. I often end up with my pockets full of trash when I go for a ride. If everybody would take 3 seconds to stoop over and pick up whatever crap they see on the trail, the trails would be spotless.

Personally, I find Gatorade/Powerade bottles to be the most offensive trash on the trail.

I've packed out a number of "sports drink" bottles that I find on the trail in my day. It's rather embarrassing riding with some of the guys I know, they just throw their shit everywhere. I tell 'em to pick the stuff up, and I get "whatever, man, it's just the Watershed," or something stupid like that.

Thats wicked that you pack out other peoples shit.
When you ride with folks with the "whatever" attitude just pick up their shit and if you drop them off or when they get dropped off just dump all the crap that you have picked up and say "What ever its just your yard"

Gold baby, gold!!!

The people that leave shit behind are the people that ride you off the trail on Ned's are the people that never do trail maintenance are the people that stand in the middle of the trail while they scratch their ass are the PEOPLE WHO'S WORLD ENDS AT THEIR NOSE. They don't give a fuck about anybody or anything else and are only in it for themselves. There's a word for it, selfish. I think ignorant fuck is a better description.

Time to get new friends.;) I'd go ballistic if somebody I knew did that in front of me.

I always assumed that the garbage on biking trails was left there inadvertently, not on purpose.:???:

Yeah... I don't ride with the guy much anymore. Chumps are chumps are chumps. It's kinda hard to inadvertently leave a popped tube suspended from a tree branch.

And how about pop cans? Someone can pack a full can of pop into a trail, but can't handle packing the 14g of aluminum out of there?

If you ever see someone littering, get some info. The Parks guys will be more than happy to hand out a hefty fine.

What is the deal with all the bags of dog shit being left at the side of trails? On Hyannis I saw a few bags sitting on a stump.

Does someone collect the bags? :S

I think the dog walkers expect the Dog Sh1+ fariy to come by and clean up after them.

 I always wondered about that, too. The entire Hyannis trail is a virtual minefield for bags of dog poop.:|

However, I get really ticked off when I see the bags of dog poop on Bridle Path.

Collected from Kirkford on Sunday morning.

Pair of sunglasses missing one lens, hanging on a tree.
Tube wrapped tightly around a stump near the wood ladders.
700ml plastic waterbottle, near the wood ladders.

Come on people, pack out your trash! There is garbage can at the new gate besides the out houses.

BTW, if there are any DNV people reading this, how about putting a garbage can back at the yellow gate?
The dog walkers are leaving bags of dog sh1+ beside the gate.

Craig, if you have ten minutes to spare, consider phoning the Parks Dept. at DNV. Believe me, they are willing to listen. It would be even better if you followed this up with an e-mail letter to the appropriate manager. I can tell you from experience that it will likely lead to a positive result.;)

jro , totally , completely agree with you on this one . it blows my mind that anyone who enjoys ALL the aspects of this sport could treat the ground we ride on with such disrespect . i always try to leave a trail better than i found it , whether picking up litter or moving rocks or downed trees .
the other day i was on " comfortably numb " . it's grooving in nicely , but i couldn't believe there was already litter on it , including a large gatorade bottle . come on people , we can do better than that !
a few years back i learned something called " the walk " . whenever you stop during a ride ( mechanical , bonk , combustible , etc ) before you leave you retrace all the steps you made at that stop , and look for and pick up ANYTHING you may have left behind . gives you peace of mind as you ride off , and you have a laugh to yourself as your buddy looks for his lighter at the next stop . remember " the walk "

hehe, good call... I haven't heard someone use the word "dink" in a long time

seriously, hydropacks are the way to go so you dont have to carry up bottles and other crap that you eventually just leave behind...you're not going to leave your hydropack sitting on the side of a trail when it gets empty

for the tubes on trees, why even waste your time...it would take less effort to put it in your pack or wrap it around your top tube than throwing it around a branch or nailing it to a tree...

DUMBASSES i tell ya

At least 1 out of every 2 rides or work days in the trails I pack out some type of garbage, from tubes, to bottles to wrappers to dog shit bags , or whatever. Hikers, dog walkers, riders.....it doesn't matter who's it is...unless it was a true accident, it is an ignorant, selfish, rude, lazy, slack-assed, and unacceptable thing to do.

Hey Moderators.... how about for things like this, and other similar loser-type activities, we start a Wall of Shame... Each time someone "knows" someone did something..you post his / her name and at least tell everyone what a dipshit they are. If they can disprove it...we all appologize and buy 'em a beer...if not....their name stays their for while and maybe it'll smarten them up a little.

Examples of offending activities might be:
- leaving any non-biodegradable (ie food, etc) gargage behind.
- braiding your own personal unecessary lines for no reason other than your lazy. If you want new lines...go out to a trail day or with builders / maintainers of that trail area and do it properly.
- riding down trails during a major trail day without stopping to help.
- never having yet come out to a trail day (this should be a good list)

...and more I'm ssure to come.

Mots people out there are cool...but sometimes it only takes a few jerks seconds to ruin hundreds of hours of other peoples efforts.

Keep diggin' the shore....PD

forgot about that new trend : packaged dogshit . it's a marketing scheme , very clever , started by some off-shore dog interest . the idea is that people without dogs will pick up the packaged dogshit ( becaause it's there , for FREE ) and then take it home with them to dump out on their lawns , like the neighbors have . then , these guys who pick up dog shit for a living give you a call , say " i noticed you got some dog shit on your lawn . you can pay me to come and take it away . "
guess where it winds up ? like i said , very clever .
