a freind brought this up earlier tonight when we were discussing riding central park:

i was saying how itd be really pritty safe riding in a group of 4 or 5 pritty decent sized guys, on bikes obviously. he said well what if your put at gunpoint. as unlikely that is to happen or whatever, what does one do when that is the situation, drop the bike and run, or fight, or just run with the bike?...discuss

eddie branan: especially, what are your thoughts about the safelt of riding in the city.

peace

i dont know if this is the right forum or whatever, its not really part of "the shore", but i thought it was most approprite here.

Get ready for 800 posts of retards saying how they would fight the guy no matter what and they would go "apeshit" if someone touched their bikes.

yea, at first i was thinking that, and that maybe he wouldnt actually pull the trigger cause there are a bunch of guys so he may actually feel threatened if we fight or something, but then i realised that if he DOES pull the trigger, then one of us are dead, and hes outa there, i mean once a buddy if full of lead, there isnt much to do about it...hum....its really a pritty tough situation

well if the guy is holding you up at gunpoint and wants ur bike, give it to him.

wait wait wait, there is a catch, dont just lightly hand him the bike, put it on the ground. So when he bends down to pick it up, you tackle the asshole, and make sure that he drops the gun. and if he is a better fighter then you, your screwed :)

and remember, u cant outrun a bullet, so dont try. and if the guy is a monster, just give it to him, its not worth dying over

hum....i think thats actually pritty sensible, maybe. i dunno, you could get someone pritty hard upside the head with a fullface, and when you tackle him, make sure you stuff your knee into his face, hard. hmm, anyone else?

if he wanted my bike I'd fuckin give it to him. You can't actually fight a guy with a gun. My bike means worlds to me but I'd rather be alive and not hurt without a bike than dead adn without a bike. Either way you'd lose your bike

if people were pulling out guns thats what the cops are for, then it gets serious, because theres that crimestoppers thingy in the newspaper if you get a good description.

Hrmm it depends. I've had a knife pulled on me and I've had a rifle pointed at me. In the knife incident I fought and I won, with the guy that got the rifle out of the back of his car I was too drunk to realise that it wasn't a bb gun and made fun of him and gave cpr to my friends teddybear (it was behind a carnaval). Lucky for me he backed down. In hindsight that was a stupid thing to do. I know myself well enough and have been in enough situations to know how I react when something like that goes down. Regrettably my temper usually takes over... especially if someone has the fucking nerve to put someone I care about, be it friend or family, at risk. My current viewpoint on the matter is that if I'm willing to risk breaking every bone in my body on my bike, I'm just as willing to take that same risk holding on to it. I don't know what I'd do if they jacked me with a gun and I was fully sober. I'm rather shortfused so I'd probably end up shot..and yes that's moronic. As far as big cities go, I've been to places like NYC and Madrid and what goes for every city is that you just need someone local with you who knows where to go and where not to go.

hey sorry i only just saw this. i'm assuming you're talking about being robbed of your bike - dude ANYONE points a gun at you give them what they want. don't even waste your time and your life thinking about it.

having said that you can't go through life being a punk. i live in bushwick, a rough section of brooklyn, and i hold my head up and go about my business where and when ever i want to without being shook or looking like it. noone's ever stepped to me for anything, but to be honest in bk i don't think they're that gung-ho for bicycles (cats get jacked for street bikes though—plenty ruff rider crews around here). only little kids maybe, and they're not gong to step to a grown man. i'm a tough-looking guy with big tattoos and a pit bull and knuckleheads don't bother me.

but you need to recognize that if you're a skinny little kid on a very expensive bike then obviously you're going to be a mark for certain sections of the population. you should take appropriate precautions, like riding with your crew or whatever.

but don't talk shit about someone pointing a gun at you. a. never happen. b. if it does give up the goods kid (which you would anyway, and mess your pants too most likely)

I've had a gun stuck in my face (with 3 of his buddies wielding machetes) on a deserted beach in Baja mexico. I'll tell you what, unless you REALLY know what the hell your doing, when some crazy dude has a gun in your face and he wants your _______, you give him your ____ and hope he just goes the hell away.

Eight years of kenpo karate or whatever self defense experience you have doesn't mean jack when you have a gun in your face. If it had been one guy things probably would have turned out differently but why take the chance for a bicycle?

I'd give it up, get insurance, get a new bike and learn from the mistake.

Buuut...if you're going to attack someone with a weapon. You have to go all the way. A knee to the face isn't sufficient...all it does is piss them off.

When I was 15, i was riding in the local park with 3 mates, but we were mucking around with this kinda jump, and I had just done the jump, and was standing with my bike looking back at my mates, when a guy of about 17 comes from nowhere and has one hand on my handlebars, and the other holding a knife to my throat!

he was obviously on some form of drug, knowing Glasgow, probably heroin, but although this might have made him a bit slow or uncoordinated, the knife was pressed into my neck, and there was really nothing i could do!

I talked to him for like 5 mins, trying to convince him that he shouldn't steel my bike, and the angle my mates were at behind me, they couldn't see what was going on, they thought he was a mate of mine!

In the end I just had to let it go! I had done 3 years of paper runs to buy that bike, and had just put on some old school Z2 BAM's, it was my complete pride an joy!

When put in that kinda situation, give them the bike! it's not worth it!

Interesting thread!

Right off the start, a bike is not equal to a life.

On the purely theoretical side of things, however, a gun is not the ultimate dispute settler. First off, most people who pull a gun are not willing to use it. Those who are willing to use it, will just shoot you, THEN take your bike. Of course, there is still the accidental discharge...

So, what to do? Screw with all the shifters, then give them the bike. Ever see a thug try to ride a bike while all the gears are jumping and holding a gun? :) Something has to give... That's when you step up behind him and smash the snot out of him. I'd suggest using your full face to clock him in the back of the head to start. Remember to hit three ways - HARD, FAST, and REPEATEDLY.

Now, an ordinary bike thief gets a beating. An armed thief gets a severe beating - after you take away the gun, of course. Severe in my mind means the poor bastard will never be the same again... if you smash both knees, they'll never have a use for a bike again, they'll be healing for a long time, and knees are rarely life threatening. Add a collarbone on one side and an elbow on the other side for good measure.

Remember this is all theoretical. I disavow any implications that I have done any of the above at any time. ;)

i dunno about nyc but john from knapps took me to trenton last week and took his big switchblade knife or w/e those knives are called that fold up. maybe concider taking one and having your friends get one too just in case. seriously tho, just go mind your own business and no one will bother you. if someone starts with you just ride away as fast as you can.

id give it up. no second guess about it. i see to much value in my life to lose it over a bike. yea sure my bike is everything to me but nothing in my mind is worth losing my life over.
