There is a relatively good chance that I will be selling my 2003 Slider and opting for a new fork.

At first, I was dead set on the 04 Slider, but now I am not so sure.

Of the two forks, which would you choose and why?

I love my 03 Slider, and the SPV on the 04 doesn't bother me in the least.

That in mind, what would you guys do?

Oh yea, and is $450 + shipping a good asking price on the 03 Slider?

From what I have heard the 04 Slider will only be available in a 1.5 steer tube. If that has since changed I haven't heard about it. So I hope you have an oversized headtube.

I'm pretty sure that's a typo on Jenson's website. There's no reason why the steer tube wouldn't be 1.125"

that would be insanely over strengthened if it was a 1.5

I'd go manitou. With marozocchi's problems in the past years, i would wait for a while to make a final judgement on this years line, ever thought the 888 is :thepimp: But the sherman line has been out for what two years? and not too many problems i think.

How soon would you want to sell your fork? I maybe interested in it in a little bit:)

There has been few to no problems at all with Marzocchis big forks (Shiver, Monster). I expect the same from the 888.

I have checked it out and pedalled around on it, and let me tell you...it is one sweet fork...

Marz big forks are tried and true:cool:

Yeah, I guess you guys are right. I stand corrected. There is good reason that the 888 will be right on and have no problems, however, just as the 2003 and 02 dirtjumpers were the latest and greatest, the 888 COULD, i reapeat COULD have a chance of having a problem. But that's pretty small, seeing as like you guys said the big forks have had next to no problems

don't believe the hype. give it till april or march next year and then sell it. you know what i mean?

hey mulletron, how does the 888 compair to your shiver? even if you rode it in the parking lot, did you notice a difference in damping and such?

You'll notice the slow speed damping, and there might be a slight stacking difference. But yea, The '04 slider is only going to have 7" of travel and a small turn radiace, and the 888 8" and wide turn radius, but also high up you know. I'd liek to try one out on the shore and see how it performs, like stacking up and sagging, I think it would be quite comparable to the Boxxer, at least when I felt one.

Chris

Tough to compare in a parking lot to be honest, but I found a few things did strike me.

1) It is incredibly plush. I have never felt a fork that glides as smoothly as this fork. The Shiver is mega plush (no stiction at all), but the 888 is off the deep end here. Reminds me of the floating feel that Moto-X bike forks have.

2) It is race looking. Sleek, black, and high tech looking. It has more adjustability than any other Marzocchi fork, or really the majority of all mtb forks...Something like 32 clicks of adjustment in the compression and rebound?!

It is something I would like to spend some time on for sure.

I have heard a rumour that the 888 has a problem when ridden in the wet, in that the seals start to disintegrate. If true, hopefully this problem will be fixed before the first versions hit the market.

I'm leaning towards this fork since it's light, and I want the 8" of travel. However...I think I'll take a wait and see approach for the moment.

35mm stanchions, and is wider between stanchions. It's pretty beefy.

And yes, it's very, very plush feeling.

Well, I wouldn't be losing any money at all.

And the extra inch would bring my cockpit up a bit, and match my front and rear travel.

I'll see how it rides with the 03, and if I have any problems probally get the 04. Turning radius isn't that great, but then again, that's not really a problem if you can control the bike.

Zedbra - I want all the whorish parts? I didn't know it was bad to have a nice bike.

T:I:M - I don't care when I sell it, I want to see how it feels first, but let me know if your interested. I'm thinkin $450 + Shipping.

Settle down there junior.

Nothing wrong with wanting the best - it's the American way, right? More and better, gimme gimme gimme. Everyone wants the goods, and so do I.

You know what you are talking about, you have/are building a damn fine machine I might add, but you come on here and start a thread for every bloody bolt you add, half ass asking for an opinion when you already have an idea of what (and it's gonna be damn near the best part) you are going to buy.

So a lot of times our opinions are moot.

Seems pompous at times, but still you have a sweet ride decked out to deserve looks and respect....yada yada yada...

Most of my posts are out of boredom. I ordered my frame a month ago (maybe 6 weeks?) and I am looking at another month before it gets here, plus I am out 6 weeks because of my shoulder.

I make posts to get opinions and stirr discussion. I was/am interested in the 888 because it looks like a damn good fork. I was just looking for any opinions about things I might have missed. Problems that I might run into down the road if I were to get that over something else. I post, not mainly about decisions I want to make, but rather to get information about the other product. All I want is info about the parts, and any jaw dropping features that I might overlook, or small details that I may have not considered (i.e. the wider stanchions on the 888).

A lot of the stuff I have is because of opinions of people on this board.
