i have no experience with the konas, but i think they might be a bit nicer. i have x-drives and have some issues with them. they are strong as hell, and work just fine, but if i could i would get a nicer set of cranks. that's all i can say. it may be the very same with the konas--both are "affordable" cranks
anyway,
-they are in no way sealed. in fact, they are pretty pathetic in that regard.
-they are ugly as fuck
-i can't keep the crank bolts tight.
someone said the konas hit yer ankles, though... that would suck above all issues i mentioned.

I have X drives, when they are running well, I really like them, however, I always seem to be working on them for various reasons.

i don't belive you. this is impossible. i mean it. maybe he didn't have x-drives. you could make an overbuilt road bike out of the amount of steel that comprises x-drives.

I've been running the old Kona Bulges (non-Isis) for a year and a half. My only complaint is that they're a bitch as soon as it starts to get really wet and muddy. You'll be pulling those babies apart every couple of rides if you want your bearings to last at all.
Maybe go for the ISIS-compatible Bulge cranks. Then you don't have to worry about the bearing thing.
They're solid cranks and I've never knocked my ankles on them.

get the konas they have sealed bearings :) they are great cranks uber beef 2 i dont see how someone could say that konas hit ur ankles :???:
konas shaped like any other tubular 3 pc crank
they are great cranks
i run BMX BB ands its so nice :D
I dont know much about the MTB BB i heard it lasts good tho
MTB BBs wont ever last as long as the BMX ones but if u got MTB BB frame u might have to buy replacement beaings sooner but meh they will last u I would say they are normal cartridge bearings and u can get them replaced from any bearing store I think or through a LBS for under 30 bucks? around 20?

The bearings are something like 18 bucks apiece, and you need three. So sixty bucks per. I get about 6 or so months out of each set, riding 3 or 4 times per week.
