isn't the only difference on those bikes the seat stays, the monocoque is all the same?

get the small!I'm the same hight as you..Just a tad short of 6'

i rode a mediem 99 vps1 for quite a while(a year),broke that and in the end i ended up with a small 99 vps1(long story...),the only reason i got rid of it is because i thought i wanted a HT..then i broke my foot and blah blah blah.
anways, the small fit WAY better than the medium.far far easier to throw around, much nicer feeling...If given the choice between a medium or small shore,i'd jump on the small right away...no questions about that!the top tube length on the 99-02 bikes stayed teh same.you should be fine.

well im more like 5'10"

and ya i heard the only difference was the seatstays/seatmast, everything else is the same.

my buddies got a 2001 Team DH which is a small, it doesnt seem to be to much of a problem though ive never really tried it on the mountain. thanks for the replies guys

the seatmast is different....slightly shorter/longer depending on frame size.also, the headtube is a bit shorter on the small vs longer on teh large(jeez!who woulda guessed!?).
i found it way easier to throw around teh small vs. teh medium..Like i said i'm 5'11,170 pounds so i'm not some mass beef machine,so having a slightly smaller bike fit me perfectly.

If the bike is to small just get one of those seats where it can move back and forth, i would go for a small

I'm selling UFO's old frame, its a 2001 Norco Drop with shore bits on it, it gets 7" or travel and is pretty sweet. Its a size small. I'm asking $500 OBO. The shock (Fox vanilla RC) is new, maybe 10 rides on it.

email me at dcstorm@ucdavis.edu if interested or have more questions

Thanks man. It's a medium though. And I'm very flexible on price if a young rider will be abusing it.

You can make the small into a medium by changing your seat post to one with 25-30mm rear offset. The stock one is zero offset. The only difference between the 3 sizes is the length of the seat mast structure and it's 30mm longer on the medium than on the small. I'm 6' and have a small 01 Launch and it fits fine.

Depends what you're used to....mainly in the top tube length department.
I'm 5'10 but I'd die and lose knee caps on small frames....especially Norco's.
