Young guy, blew off the Gerbil Cage and hit moderately hard. Probably OK, but you don't take chances with that kind of injury so the calvary was called in.

You know, even a little bump on the head is called a spinal injury, so don't over-react.

no idea.

hey jonny, was that your group that me and mike rode by? there was a pack of like 15 people right before the ID corner i think it was. i know Barb was in there accordin to Mike. If so, was that the Cove ride? :???: I've been thinken bout hitting one up.

Mike said we passed Trevor Porter so I figured...quite the show of force from Cove and I've been lookin for a layed back group ride atmosphere like once a week.

You guys

It was my brothers best friend that fell on his head. He may have a compressed spine. They dont think its as serious as it was first thought. It was just a lot of commotion caused because the rider is young and his dad was with him.

I certainly can't speakfor this incident; but in the last 4 days I have passed three different families where it was obviously DAD and a Buddy and someone's 8 year old. On one occasion Dad was walking beside the kid as he went over the bridges, but on the other 2 occasions it was a free for all. Bodies falling everywhere. I got off my bike and walked the kids across the gerbil as well as the bridges later on, Daddy was to busy fucking up himself to help Junior OUT! It is getting silly!!!!!!!
It is truely sad to see that kind of shit going on !!!!!!!!!!

Not in this case .. Blake the young riders knows the shore well and is a really good riders. His dad also rides really well for his age, but its your child. You dont want to move him when he lying there and look back on that being a stupid move.

dude, i think it's wicked to see father/son out riding learning together. kids fall it's just life. ross you'll see in this as well as my other post that my best wishes go out to good news from the docs. i cant see why age and gender matter at all. not everyone who bikes is 17 years old and rocken iron maiden on the way up. some people are 40 year olds lookin for a day off from the office.

i dunno, just throw some thoughts out to this dude. i'm glad his dad was there even if he did crash, i wish my parents were more involved in my biking. it would make it easier for them to understand where i'm coming from.

Sorry to hear that Ross, and I sure hope that it's nothing serious.

gerbil cage (from what im told) is the section where the first ladder up the stump down to those skinnies and then in to the log ride to diagonal to log ride then up and over o nthe left theres another log ride or you can just go straight.

I could be mistaken though. I remember talking with Jeremy about it. Apparently there is a "teacup bridge" too? Something like that.

Sounds like the section we refurbished with new tongues at the last CBC trail day. Basically, the first A-frame right?

yeah i wish that my parents were more into riding...a trip down to the corner store is about as far as they'll venture now, although a couple years ago we did the kettle valley railway trail, which was something like 125Km. of riding in one day.that was pretty cool...

but i jsut wish that my dad would ride trails..hell,even XC trail would be fun..it'd give me the chance to get out and spend some time with the old man, rather than getting dragged along to playing golf and the likes...

Just past there. Where the really skinny ramp goes off the root ball. His dad showed up AFTER he fell, 'cause he's a good dad and was concerned about his kid.

Barb figured he was probably OK, it's just that you never take chances with any kind of potential spinal injury. Not worth the risk. Sort of the same reason why they always send two ambulances instead of just one. That way they can put you on life support if the situation demands it. Better safe than sorry, right? Anyway, as of the time of his evacuation, he had no signs of spinal cord injury, just a lot of pain between the shoulder blades. Here's hoping he is just really sore for a couple of days.

it's good to hear hes alright. just goes to show injuries can happen in some unexpected place. further down after all the berms i stopped to wait for Lunatik (on a HT and hasnt ridden it in a LONG time so he was doin good IMO) to come down and i watched a couple guy come down. almost every one of them caught up and dabbed off this one root. none of them even noticed it. but it hooked the tire. doesnt take much to surprise you, so everyone should keep it in mind next time they decide to do CBC at mach 9.

Gross generalization, sometimes it's the easiest stuff that gets you injured.

The only part of Wade Simmons I want is his healed femur. Otherwise, I'd be happy just watching him on video.

The big group of riders was the John Henry's DH ride (Wed. rides). Our leaders held the riders head still while another called for help etc. and they stayed behind. Two of us replaced the leaders to complete the ride (took the radios, remaining first aid stuff).

Sounds like the rider is OK (from reading above). And thanx to our leaders who took the time/effort etc. to help out this young rider!!!!

Despite our large group size I was still amazed at how many other riders were out on a Wed. evening. I would have guessed in the hour it took (with the injuried rider and three mechanicals and the large group size I'd guess it took an hour to finish CBC) there were at least 60 OTHER riders. Wow CBC is popular! Fromme is soooo quiet compared to Seymour.
