So I go up the new Empress re-route trail today to get a look at how the rain has helped the trail, and what areas need work.

I get up to where Empress drops out into the new trail, and a couple guys come down Empress. I told them that the trail was closed. They said they didn't know that. I asked them about the fence at the top of Empress. Not much of a reply. I asked them how they got onto the trail - did they jump the fence. They said yes. I told them there's a trail day on this new trail and they should be there at 9:30 and help fix the trail they just rode.

I get to the top of the new re-route, and go over to the top of Empress. The fence is still there, and the signs that say it's being re-routed are still there.

The re-route, from Empress to the bridge, has a lot of hard coners and switchbacks. It's obvious there has been riders going down, and there's already big skidmarks at the sharp corners.

The entrance at Old Buck is blocked off by a ribbon. A couple logs were put beside the stump at the entrance to stop people from going around. The logs were moved, and there's a braid already being made on that side of the stump.

I'm guess I'm just amazed that how some shitheads can't read, and/or can't think, and/or don't even have the slightest consideration for what they are taking advantage of. Like, wtf, wasn't the ride down to where Slash or Lower Boogieman good enough, or was the prospect of having to ride Bridal Path out on the big rig to disheartening?

Sorry for the rant, but after all the work that's gone into that specific trail, the work that's planned for tomorrow, the effort put in the by the NSMBA execs to work with the Parks, etc., I was really pissed off.

:( shitty thats queer

next time u build the trail in the middle and leave a good 50 feet or so away from other trails so people dont ride till u attach it to the others

Nice rant Switch.....I feel your frustration. Hopefully those guys get the "curse of a thousand pinch flats". Way to try to guilt them into showing at the trail day. Unfortunately you pretty much know they won't be there.

bingo. I was out shuttling with some guys who don't get out to the shore too often & @the end of Boogie we wnet to see what was up w/ Empress. They were all set to duck under and bomb down until I clued them in. @ that point of the trail eveyone's still got a good buzz & unfortunately a pink ribbon will only prevent peeps w/ 1/2 a clue (rarer than ever before) from staying clear. Lotsa big bikes don't push so well up that little bit of Bridal.

sad but true

Some people are pathetic.

However, I do think that the peeps on this board would be far less inclined to do somethink like that. Which is to say that if people knew the consequences of their actions and the sort of light it sheds on mountain bikers, they would be less likely to poach a closed trail.

As it stands, you can add those riders to "Team 10 Percent."

The most pathetic part is when they are caught and deny it.

At least be a man and own up, losers.

The best was the third guy who took off down through the new development a couple of weeks ago. It is truly unreal with the fence, all the tape, and the logs that people even try. "Earning to ride it" or not I don't have the nerve.

Haha. I'll admit I poached it about two weeks ago - put me under the "earned the ride" category after all the work I put in. The one thing is that I made sure I went slow through the new section so I didn't tear it up. I think if you do more than your fair share of maintenance and you know how to respect the trails where they are hurting then the odd liberty is no big deal. It's too bad that most of the poachers never do maintenance and won't lift a finger to help even when confronted. I can't wait till someone tries to poach my new trail and I accidently swing a shovel in their general vicinity.

PS - I get to be bitchy because my GF kicked me to the curb, ten years down the shitter.

A group of the chuckwagon shuttlers jumped the fence yesterday, right in front of parks guys who were riding on Bridal Path.

WTF - so if they took a cab up then they would have been called yellow cabbers? Smarten up - chuckwagon is just a way up to the top it has nothing to do with who the riders are.

true, but having a shuttle service has been always a matter of dispute, on these mountains especially. We could debate all day about the DH mindset, and argue about all the shortcuts being made by marauders( that's what I call them).

In my old age I've realized that hurtling thru the woods isn't as satisfying as sliding thru the trees and hooking into the turns. Mega shuttle traffic means bad time for the trail. No offence to the C-Wagon crew, I was comtemplating doing it myself.

Yes, but shuttling is not the debate. He was associating trail poaching with a shuttle service. That makes no sense - especialy when empress it at the bottom of the mountian. Chuckwagon has nothig to do with this.

I didn't call them anything - I just posted what I was told as I always call a spade a spade.
