I'm buying a ChumbaWumba DSL frame off a guy for 500 bucks, almost mint, minus some paint scrapes. what are some good parts suggestions? I want Shimano cranks, hayes hydraulic brake sets, and probly an XT rear derailluer and a Ring of Fire bash guard, but I'm undecided on a fork or wheel set up yet. I want Mavic rims....and probly a Panaracer 2.4 FS in the rear.....what else should I throw on there? what head set? stem? seat post? bottom bracket? front derailluer? pedals? etc.

I wasn't asking for a fork, I was asking for other parts, like bottom brackets and stems and seats and the like. a good front tire suggestion too.
stink master u should reopen your eyes to teh new Manitou...
u are doing yourself a seriosu disservice by not looking into what Manitou has to offer these days...
but if you have blind-allegiance to Zokie by all means keep buying their forks...

Ignorance is bliss when it comes to parts. If you don't know there is better, you think your's is the best.

Get a Manitou. At least look at what they have to offer. If you are basing your opinion of them on what they had a few years ago, you are jaded on forks. Manitou has come a long way.
IMO, Get Race Face cranks over Shimano's. The 03 XT's are the last of the "hardcore" FR cranks. And they aren't even that great. I should know, I ride them. I am replacing them with Race Face North Shore DH's and a Truvativ Gigapipe.

a good front tire is a 2.8 michi evolve dh bb race face stem bars and post. .243 racing seat. Mag 30 to XT wheels. michi 2.5 rear tire. Hayes hfx 9 8in brakes.

A) I've never ridden an '03 or '04 Manitou, but I rode an '02, and I hated it, it was really.......weird feeling, kinda too springy but really weak rebound.....ish. I didn't like it, I liked Psylo's, but I hear they fall apart quick. Fox Forx I've looked at but I want to ride one first, I've ridden lots of Bombers though, hence my biased-ness
B) it may be bliss, but I'm looking for the comparison in price and quality, because those parts I mentioned, I don't know very well, so I dont' know the field of buying options

Which 02 did you ride? If you rode something shitty like a SIX, or a Magnum then of course you're going to hate the company.

It was a Black Elite
First of all Stink Master, that frame is absolutely pimp. That would be one of my top choices for bikes to have for Whistler.
I'd build it up light and strong.
Fox, Shiver SC fork or something sc strong and light
Blackspire DH/FR cranks, Shimano Octalilnk bb with MRP chainguide
Bling wheelset- Mag 30's or Mavic 321 on Formula front/Hadley rear
Raceface diabolous stem, Easton handlebar
Shimano XT hydros
Michelin 2.5F/2.2R rubber

thank CC, I thought the frame was rather sweet myself:thepimp:
BUt I was debating between a DJ2 or one of the 3 freeride SC forks... light and strong was the plan. I tend to break things....lots.

so as of yet I've come up with the following bike:
'02 ChumbaWumba DSL frame
DJ2 fork
Truvativ GigaPipe Team DH BB
RaceFace Diabolous Stem
XT derailluer system
Hayes Hydraulic brake setup
RaceFace Prodigy DH cranks
either Azonic P.D.W riser or Truvativ ProTaper bars
Kona JackShit or LizardSkin lockon grips
Mavic 321 Rims
Panaracer FS 2.4 R tire
Tioga DH 2.5 F tire
Azonic Fusion pedals
hmmm..what else do I need...the seat post and headset come with the frame, but I haven't checked what they are yet..
so what else would go good?

Swap the Prodigy's with the North Shore's.
Answer make's the Pro-Tapers, get them.
Otherwise I think it looks pretty good.
Get a SRAM 9.0 Cassette, XT Shifters, and I think you're done.
Eventually get a Thompson Seat post and King Headset (start with a PIG, they are the tits for a cheap headset).

The only reason I took the Prodigy over the Shore's is because of the Bash ring. I wasn't sure on the Answers, but you're the second voice of confirmation (my buddy out here said those too) I've never even HEARD of the Thompson and King stuff
