Are there any special methods of braking? Like if you turn right, u use your rear brake, turn left, you usually use front brake, or anything like that?
umm dont brake suddenly with the front brake while leaning foward
use that infomation wisely young one

i was told by a dh racer to use the front brake to steer, the rear brake to slow down. sounds complicated but i'm sort of starting to get it ...
also...modulation is key ie pump the brakes

wanna know how to learn to brake.
what we do with the kids at bike camp is teach them the proper technique and show them the different power each brake has.
go down a somewhat steep hill using only ur back tire trying not to skid...it shows you the power your back brake alone has. now do it again with ur front only. you start to see where the points are thaty it starts losing traction and how to adjust your weight to compensate.
lady gravity was basically on when she said about the front to turn right to stop as i have heard this too. but for some reason when i brake i find my front stops me as my rewar turns me. cause the rear brake actually has very little stopping power. but who knows. do what you feel is comfertable. if it stops you you are fine

dont brake. simple. if you dont know what i mean, take the brakes off your bike for a few weeks. it helps. you often find yourself killing speed by braking in uneccessary places, but if you dont have brakes, you learn not to. in a loose gravel turn, the most common washout place, instead of braking to avoid washing out, i put down a foot to stabilize. much faster than braking.

I did a race camp last year with Andrew Shandro...Here is the coles notes of what he said...
1) Always brake BEFORE your corners..this helps huge with maintaining speed and coming out of the corner with momentum.
2) If you find in the corner you are going to fast and you must brake, drag the REAR only
3) Physics do not allow a bike to turn and bank properly at speed when the front brake is applied. It un-settles the bike and makes you fight the corner, not turn the corner. NO FRONT brake in corners unless you are in deep ca-ca.
4) Lean your bike beyond what you are used to, to a point where it feels excessive at first. And then it still won't be enough. Turning at speed is accomplished by banking the bike like mad, and trying to stay off the brakes once you get to your corner.
Hope this helps!
