Regarding Fromme parking.
Props to Sharon for speaking for us as a whole and doing a good job of defending us against the scrutiny.

If they took some of that $94,000 and built a parking lot above the yellow gate, the problem would have been solved. They say they don't have the money to do it, but this will cost much more in the end.

Did anybody notice the irony in the photo caption?
"Allen M (left) and Aaron K now have to cycle to trail opening."

Overall, I thought it was a good article from a rider's perspective. The rider comments were constructive and sympathetic to the residents' plight, and the article ended on a positive note.
And they only mentioned littering, urinating, swearing and changing in public.;)

lets just hope that whatever they plan out for all us riders works out for everybody including the residents.you would think they could do a little more with the $94000 than what they have planned:rolleyes: like davet said, some sort of parking beyond the yellow gates would be a hell of an idea:D thank you sharon for being a strong voice for all mtn bikers.:D

I hope everyone has taken a few minutes and sent a letter to the powers that be in that area. Squeaky wheel gets the grease!

and boy are those residents squeaking...
The Reporter came out while we were working on Empress. We made a good impression.
He was REALLY impressed by the 16 year old Surrey and Coquitam kids ;) digging in North Van dirt!

94 000! Why the hell does the government / district take out huge amounts of money for a 5 000 dollor problem? If even! Hah, no wonder were taxed to hell....I hate our government.

thats an outrageous amount of money, yeah i agree with sanrensho, by what he said about putting a parking lot above the yellow gate. since it said in the article money was also going to 'gates', wouldnt that give the impression that they could just a gate a little higher(i cant remember the spot but like a couple hundred meters up the road i saw a par ranger and his truck standing by a wider spot in the road before the road narrowed(when i was riding up to watch the world cup). put the gate there and widen the road to make way for some parking and that would cure the whole problem. and i know some of us riders would get out there and help(but of course the district wouldnt let us, cause they'd rather spend enormous amounts of cash on something that IS easier to fix)...
those are my thoughts

$94000 for some gates, fence, parking signs, governemnt working at it's fullest efficiency.
they should just slightly widen the first part of that dirt road, so vehicles can park on the side, and move the gate up.

Wasn't it our own members who were telling us how that single bridge cost $5000 in supplies alone, plus all the labour (that was volunteer...read: FREE) that people put in.
Stuff costs money.

I can't remember the exact numbers, but it's not $94K for what you see. The cost of the turnaround and signs wasn't much.
Of the $94, I think about $35,000 was salary for a new by-laws officer to give out parking tickets...
and the scary one is $30,000 going towards funding their 6 month study to develop a long range plan for MTB on Fromme, where they are going to look at liability / environmental impact / other users impact and all that other wonderful BS which could lead to trail closures.
This is where the big struggle ahead lays for mtb'ing on Fromme, and why NSMBA needs more membership punch and more corporate backing. It's going to be a real battle against some of these people who don't like us.
