looks kinda cool that there's an event in Switzerland, but the freeriding in the trailer looks pretty weak.

yeah it was really cool - i've been there. my first race and i finished 22nd (out of about 150 starters) :D
they even have a pic of me on the official trailfox-page (i'm on lane 2, black/red fox shirt):

unfortunately i missed the start a bit, so i'm behind from the beginning. to my defense i can say that the guy to my right won the night-x and the one to my left won the hole competition (5th at the night-x). they almost exploded out of the gates. something i'd really had to work on ...

the riding wasn't very technical, because everyone who wanted could compete. they said that they didn't want any bad crashes / injuries, so they kept the courses rideable for most people. you didn't have to take high risks when riding down the freeride or downhill trail (when not going very fast that is).

remember: the term "freeriding" has not exactly the same meaning in europe as in canada, i think. most of us europeans think of freeriding as a kind of biking where you do everything with your bike. going up (maybe suffering due to the heavier-than-cc-bike) and having a lot of fun going downhill. maybe a bit of jumping or droping. i'm sure that the younger europeans will take it to a higher level though!

Totally agree swissrider. The riding in Europe is a bit behind the canadian style - but if you take a look at what is going on at the moment (the last few issues of the MountainbikeRider mag), I think it takes just a while before we in Europe attempt such stuff as the Canadians do.

Although the terrain is waay different, except for the Alps maybe.

on the contrary. IMO the UK dirtjump scene has been doing their thing for a couple years now. dirtjumping hasnt really kicked in to overdrive until the last little while. there are tons and tons of awesome riders comin out of the UK and Europpe just Canada/US have some big names behind us. thats all. say hi to steve peat cedric gracia etc etc etc for me ;)

Agree, at least concerning the DJ-scene in the UK. But what I was referring to was the "Freeride" thing: the difficulty of trails, the gaps jumped and the like.
Peaty and Cedric and the like are professionals.
In Canada even non-sponsored do go huuge, over here it may take a while.

found a very nice written summary of the event here:

i agree with the statements above. when reading on this board i often see reports and pictures of non-sponsered riders doing things never seen around here.

Mic: the Mountainbike Rider Team is pushing it right now, you're right. "Lippe" even was at the Trailfox event ...

Yeah, I was the Canada representative, yeehaw, it was a fun event. Trails definately could have been tougher but there were some sweet challenges like pushing up in 30+, oh well, I suppose it is freeriding Eh. Yeah, I finished 28th overall cuz I eat swiss dirt 3 times in the Day time Freeride run. And Laax/Flims is nice, tonnes of cool people to hang out with from all over Europe. I had a great time and the event reminded me a bit of hanging out around whistler for a couple days and not so much a competition. It was all for good fun!

I'm a recently removed rider to the Vancouver area and now living in Munich. Just finished a 5 week holiday to BC so I got my fix for this year.
