View Full Version : XC is evil!

Holy milkcrud. So I spent most of today trying to keep up on a flat XC trail on my 39 pound le toy versus a sleak XC skinny ass setup. Word to the wise, dual 24" doublewides + 2.6 gazz's == death and destruction when trying to keep up with the lycra toting shaven leg boys. I managed to stay on the wheel but daaaaaammmmmnnn. Then we hit the asfalt...gna gna gna..I STILL GOT BEAT. *sigh* I think I'll setup my old 26" d321's with some skinny ass tires, crank up my seat and call for a rematch. Or try and lure them to the park. :bandit:

Yes, leave a trail of lycra and trail mix into the park - you know they will follow....

pay no attention, snort. Blaine REALLY likes looking at men's shaved legs.

Ah yes..who can blame him. It's quite fascinating to observe the play of sunlight on the lotion pampered legs and the pre-printed "hey I don't ride for a team but my catsuit riding thingy still has 27827228 brandnames on it"-wear just completes the picture. Unfortunately there was no joining in song, which would made the experience somewhat more tollerable. Not even when I merrily started to humm village people classics. They might have owned me, but atleast I have my pride. Pancake Pride. But have no fear, I will go back for a second chance next week.. I plan on running them over if all else fails..provided I can get some grip on the ale-like smooth skin.

Head fake them with a Powerbar Gel pack, and then dig the rings in, starting from the SPD shoes.

 Let's just hope they're shavers and not waxers. Waxers are immune to pain or so I'm told :(

My FS is 35 - 37 lbs... I XC race it.

It's fun.

PS I don't shave or wax.

yeah, for most people. i dunno how u could hate XC.. yeah uphill sucks but feels good when ur at the top. Hell i lead the xc ride for the shop i work for on my downhill bike.. 47pounds with 8" and 38tooth.. u just gotta ride it more than around a park. Doing XC rides will make ya stronger so u can freeride even better.

Oh you have to understand that all my XC bashing is a direct result of me being owned up by a bunch of "nancies". I completely accept that fact and will not rest untill they have all enjoyed the sweet taste of my revenge. That being said, I don't think it's humanly possible to compete with a skinny XC 26x1.whatever-setup on a flat trail with no technical sections for several hours on a street hog with superknobby dual 24x2.6. When it comes down to speed I just can't keep up. It'd have to be the technical sections, which there weren't any off, to overtake a good XC rider. Then again it just might be me.

Anyhoo..let's make a little contest..if anyone can prove to me (so official race results) that they got in the top 3 at a proper XC race that came down to staminia (so no 1hour sissy spurts, 10 rider minimum) with a minimum tire width of 2.6 for 24" or 2.8 for 26" (we will go on the honour system here..don't con me. I will hunt you down.) I will send you a brandnew set of 26x2.8 michelin DH tires. First one to prove it, wins. So the first provable post here will be the winner. If and when we have a winner I'll pm him/her to get the address and ship out the tires the next day. I'm from the Netherlands so it will take atleast a week for them to arrive. Let the games begin.

Best I can do is a 5 race series, 4th place, around 25 riders, with dual 2.4's on the 4 rear 5 front squish.

Each race is 40 mins.

Looks like the 2.4's won't be replaced......... (except one has been taken off since by a 2.1)

Allrighty ATN, seeing how you're not within my set range of requirements, but still a pretty good XC result with reasonably thick tires. You will not become the default winner, but you will become the man to beat. Can you get me some official listing of your results? If noone beats you within the next 3 days (meaning better results within the set range of the requirements (24x2.6 or 26x2.8), longer than 1 hour, more than 10 riders with skinny XC setups, top 3 result) You'll win. If someone within the set requirements proves their results they win by default on a 1st-posted basis.

Aren't we in a dashing mood today. How about asking someone to post a pic of someone literally PUKING out a lung. Now that would cool to see!

LOL
i've done that..but in a running race, not a bike one. anyone ever heard of the Tuffest Twosome? it's a relay race run on Bby Mtn - runner goes first, tags off a rider. anyhoo...it's a fairly grueling run, and i pushed myself too hard going up cardiac hill and ended up woofing my breaky :P i was in the lead too

I threw up in a Canada Cup on SunPeaks once. Got the holeshot into the singletrack but it was hot; I had all-you-can-eat breakfast and pork sausages and I barfed. I had to DNF - could barely stand after that.

My best finish is 3rd in big bike category at a xc race on my 35 pound duel 26" with a 2.6 front and 2.4 rear set up. Total race time about 40-45 mins.

My 31 lb FS with dual 26X2.2 seems just right for all-round use. I can climb with no problem (reduce travel on the rear to 4") then flick the switch to give me 5.25" and fly down. Of course, a rider on a good DH bike will kill me on the way down, but there is a good chance that they will only be half way up the hill by the time I start my decent.

XC rules. Plain and simple, many people make fun of XC, and I think its because they are intimidated by it. (Not you pickleboy, I got your point about this thread).

I think the ones who slag it are intimidated by the fact thay they are in nowhere near good enough shape to keep up to any decent XC rider. Maybe they are scared to make a light 24lb bike with 2" tires and a 2.5" fork fly down tight, rooty single track, and need the 8" travel bike to feel "safe". All the big talk is funny, because the ones who make fun of it would get :cuffs: owned :cuffs: if they ever tried it.

I bet that all of your opinions will change if you go for a nice 5 hr epic at Whistler (away from the bike park) It's an awesome type of riding.

My goal is to get an XC bike and be able to ride the trails I do now with 4 inches instead of 5 and 5.

In my mind, 5 and 5 is XC :D

But I use a hardtail for XC.

XC ends at 4 and 4, 5 and 5 is all mountain.

Also, my bike wieghs 35-37 lbs, that isn't XC.

Some weight for crappy components, some weight for the doubletrack and hayes disc.

The XC bike I want is 4 inches up front only.

You know what is ironic, all the XC guys say that "I got schooled when I went on this Freeride trail and almost killed myself on a drop!!!"

We all ride bikes, some people like riding up, some like riding down, some even do both......................we all like riding bikes.

Enough said??

the sad thing is that my 38.5 lb bike only has 4" up front.

cry cry.

actually i have no problem riding up hills, but i usually like to save my juice for going down. unlike some of you, i actually put effort into the downhill!!
