I hope Mountain Biking will move in a direction of it's own, not following BMX, MX, skiing, or anything else. I hope it continues to be influenced by these things, but still follows a path that is 100% MTB.

No "free style" sport really has its own path, its all just random crap depending on if your on a skate board, snow board, kayak, bike, whatever. The difference is, skate boarders found "bowls", bikers found "cliffs and stunts" (which come one ppl....how more original do you want to get than the original fucking ladder bridges we ride so commonly? Does that not set us apart enough or do we need to MTBMX down a ski hill and a hit a moto jump just to to confuse things?) and etc... We STARTED in our own direction, in the forrest, high in the air, and now we're just experimenting. Itll all die down sooner or later.

i htink its good to see riding progress like this. racing is boring to watch on tv. freeriding is not accessable to the average person to even know it exists. dirtjumps are very public and out there, showy aspect of riding. big drops get people pumped on television. and fast stuff gets stuff going bigger badder and keeps live crowds hyped.
this mix of everything covers the sort of pillars of riding.

Man.. I'm gunna have to throw a big DISAGREE to that.
I think our niche is EXACTLY with what the original post said. Combining stunts on a course like whistler slopestyle is exactly what we are all about. DJ , Park, Mountain, and Racing style is all thrown into one event. IMO it's totally original and unique to MTBing and it's going to keep progressing that way.
