It was amazing!!
Backflips. Backflips everywhere!! Unbelievable skill. Matt Hunter (RF UFC Winner) did what appeared to be his first and he stuck it perfect. You should have seen his face!
Gareth tried a backflip after dropping in from above the wallride on the massive spine booter....landed, but crooked and wiped. Broken arm and collarbone. Unfortunate.
Wade did a psychotic line...jumped from the ramp leading to the new drop, into a wall ride, followed by MASSIVE hang time.
Berrecloth is unstoppable. 360 of the box followed by large drop, followed by full extension superman seat grab, it was insane!
Vanderham was awesome.
So much went down, the crowd was MASSIVE!!! and super pumped. All in all, it was one of the best bike events I have been at.
Don't know who placed where....I assume Berreclaw won, but I am just speculating.
Oh my god... freeriding is obvisouly going in the right direction thanks to guys like wade and Bearclaw!!

That was such a wicked event, seeing gareth go down that hard was just brutal, landing crooked off a backflip and casing = eughhh....I got some pretty cool pictures but they were limited because I was only in one place, I even had a media pass DOH. That was just insane seing wade and richie doing nothings over the 40 foot? spine take off transfer landing jump, then bearcloth came and fully extendied indian aird it. So many backflips but it never got boring because theres just so much talent there, all the best riders ripping it up like this is such a treat to see. Its so unfortunate that dyer went down so bad, I wish him a speedy recovery.

wades line was nuts, i was standing infront of the drop but beside / behind the wall ride, theres a bit of an open area there and i was watching for anyone going to the wall ride or the drop and id yell wich one, so i yelled DROP but then he came off the wall ride and i just said to myself "what the fuck!" it was pretty sweet, some guys camera got covered in dust cuz he wasn't expecting it

Not only did that event increase the validity of the sport of freeriding and do a service by showing people that may not know, what freeriding is about, but as riders, we should thank all the competitors and organizers for another reason.
I went out to the bars later that night, and can tell you that the ladies not only had an increased awareness and interested in freeriding, but freeriders. Just a mention that you were involved in that days events (I was in the DH earlier in the day) guarunteed a lot of attention.

THat competiton is definetly one of the best things I've seen in biking for years. If we want freeriding to hit mainstream (some don't want this to happen though!), we need more events like this, the crowd was really into it.
Some of the lines the guys took were just absolutely sick. And Cowan repeatedly going back for the multiple backflips was great!

Other news:
Unfortunately Jay Hoots apparently tore his ACL, presumably while casing the last jump on his second run. It really didn't look bad, but that's always the way with these things. It was a drag since earlier in the day, Norco had had four downhillers on various podiums, including Mike Jones winning the mens downhill.
I was really impressed with Cam McCaul. He is a superb dirt jumper and can throw down size with the best of them.
John Cowan tried three times to get two backflips in a row on adjacent sets. he keps wiping out before the second one, and walking back up, so in the end he had to do four back flips in the space of about a minute. It was rad.
I hope they tighten up the course with more technical stuff next time. There seemed to be a temptation to straighline a lot of the course by some guys - probably on a quest for the big gap air, but the guys who did more stuff were mostly more impressive. They could add a lot at the bottom for example, leaving the center of the course with the big stuff. Anyway, it was a spectacular effort and it's only going to go upwards and get better. This was about the coolest bike event I've seen.
We got a whole picnic lunch from the supermarket bread, brie, avocados etc) and ate it on the side of the mountain before slopestyle started. It was just like watching the tour de france only more progressive.
Broken Fusion!
