I can't believe the audacity of some people. Today the crew was working on the bridge near the end of the re-route when old-man banshee dude comes ripping down the burms on the other side of the bridge. Apparently the entrance is fenced off. Well, fenced off for most people  He didn't even stop to help. I don't know if he even said "thanks".
On the other side of the people spectrum - nice work today by everyone who came out to help with the bridge. Also, thanks to the volunteers (Kenji, Tammy, Franco) who were getting riders going into the corkscrew/ned's area to stop and sign up for NSMBA and fill in the questionaires.

Thats awsome!! but I have to admit that I'm not a member cause of lack of money (seriousily had not had more than $15 bucks on me since early June). I have finally managed to get a $20 and was wondering where u plan to be tomorrow (sunday) and on wednesday. I know that forsure I will be up grouse on the 4x course. Mabe you should come and harass people there and try to get time to join!! I'll be u there those days (any probly more) with a $20 bill with NSMBA's name on it. Also if I sign up now will my membership last a full year? or till th end of December? thanks

Hey bunny, I dont think we got 200 new MEMBERS. We got 200 people to sign up with their names emails and addresses, on fromme. I'm still a bit confused about what thats used for, is Sharon going to enter the emails and other information into her data base and then forward them all information to sign up?

Thanks to all the empress volunteers and membership sign up volunteers!
Don't forget to thank Scott, Dylan and Robb from BC Parks!
We want names and info to beef up our numbers so we have a stronger voice. If people want to donate that's great!
Thanks again!
And to the Empress Poachers, you are thankless.

Hey... the bridge is done.
We nailed down the deck and put the railings on today (Sunday).
Yesterday (Saturday) was a bigger turnout which was good since we needed the manpower to lift the stringers into place and attach them.
Props to BC Parks, who supplied the material. The stringers alone were almost $300 apiece times 4 plus all the other lumber and materials your looking at a $5,000 bridge at least.
Scott (the architect) and Rob (the finish chainsaw carpenter) both from BC Parks - massive thanks for all your time and effort.
We heard stories about Lee Lau carrying in 36 buckets of concrete on Friday to set the center foundation for the bridge.
Basically it took us 2 full days, Sat & Sun to build the bridge... not bad for a bunch of half assed mountain bikers.
And great news about signing up 200 new members on Saturday.

thanks for the donation!
Lee was by himself last Tuesday putting in that foundation!
Spending a few days with Manual Labour (spoken with a latin accent) is tiring!

Absolutely, those guys who hauled stuff in there and laid those gabes down on Thursday and Friday, fantastic effort. Sorry, I didn't mean to underplay the ground work you guys did. It was unreal and made it very smooth once the actual bridge framing got going.
Props to all involved.. hey are you the Tyler who was there helping out today?
There's a lot of work yet to do to finish the trail, so let's look for big numbers when the trail day happens.

You can do both. Your $20 donation mostly goes to materials and tools for trail maintenance.
I am completely amazed at folks like Tyler (wilkez) and so many others who don't even live on the Shore but donate time and effort to the NSMBA. And then there are the legions of riders who live on the Shore but donate neither time nor money to maintaining the trails...

Have you seen the finished product yet?? - looks pretty amazing.

Talking poachers - Banshee Boy on Saturday was nothing.
On Sunday Tammy walked up and made sure the trail was cordoned off and the no riding sign up. There was only 4 of us there and we were hammering down the deck - driving 6" spikes into 4 by. There were spare hammers.
Two guys on fullys come barreling down with a dog running free. Rob (BC Parks) confronted them about skipping the sign and running an unleashed dog in the Park. They tell us there was no sign up and basically told him to F-off about the dog.
I ask them if they want to help nailing down some boards. The one guy just scoffed at me and told me they work on Fromme and haven't got time to help. I asked him which trail - Granny's he says. Any one ridden down Granny's lately and seen the state of it??
So off they ride - pricks.
We went back up to check and the trail was still taped off with the sign.

I didn't take note of their bikes Lee, but I don't think it would have hurt them to put their bikes down for half an hour and bang in some nails to spell off the guys who'd already been pounding for over an hour.
I rode down Granny's maybe a month ago and I didn't see any sign of any new work on it then. Maybe they have, I don't know... it's just when you're toiling away there for your whole weekend and 2 guys ride by like that with no offer to help, it's pretty easy to get a little bitter I guess.
Hey bottom line is I had a ton of fun helping to build the bridge and I think everyone else did also, so appologies for sounding a little bitter.

I was just at the bridge with Scott and Rob and a guy on an 8-ball came blasting down.
"duh, no I didn't see no sign, wats wit da ribbon over da bridge? "
You gotta wonder why people have to be cowards and deny going by a closed sign instead of just admitting you were caught and yes you are an idiot.
We're planning another day this Friday, July 25th!
We'll have an official opening on Sunday, Aug 10th.

Totally.... but I would think an Aug 10 timeline to have it finished by digging and packing gold dust is way too tight. There'd have to be a crew in there working pretty solidly for the next couple of weeks to pull that off (IMO).

haha. but didn't you know the gold dust fairies are going to be busy working away? and they work at night, so they won't get in the way of the poachers (i think it would be annoying to have to keep riding around us fools that are so rude as to build during the day). :P

If we go in a couple of more times with 10 or so dedicated people, and have a big trail day on Aug 10th with more people then it should be pretty good to go.
We'll see how it wears and we may have to have some more fix up days.
I don't think we'll be gravelling the trail at this point in time. If we get a sufficient crown on top, and rock the areas that are prone to wear, we'll see how that stands up.
They were really impressed with the guys who were working higher on the trail on Saturday above the bridge.
We need a different name for the connecting trail between Empress and Old Buck.
Something Parkish. I'd like something with 'Back' in it since that's Scott's last name.

actually, most of the trail is already pretty much gold, scott said the bobcat operator threw most of the organic soil away, when dirty bike, niggz and i were cleaning and packing it, it looked quite good quality. i don't think we would have to bring much more dirt in IMO.
