With bikes becoming a hot item for thefts, insurance is starting to look pretty attractive. Does anyone have a good insurance policy on their bike alone?

There seem to be lots of home policies that cover bikes but they often have limits ($1000) or they charge extra for the bikes. Many of us don't need the full home insurance since the only valuable things we own are our bikes. Any suggestions?

I am insured through Dominion of Canada. I think I pay $6 for every hundred I am insured for.

I switched to canadian direct insurance awhile back for home insurance. If you are a BCIT alumni, there is no limit on the value for your bikes. It is included in the regular rate. I really questioned the guy on the phone about it. He said the $500 or $1000 limit is waived for us BCIT peeps...good deal :D

Phone them and ask yourselves if you don't believe me

This is one I was recommended by LeeLau:

Johnston Meier Insurance - 736-4574 - Evelyn or Janet

$3 per hundred - good deal! I am going there next week.

I have Allstate Insurance - it covers your basic bike up to $500 (per bike ie I have 3 bmx bikes) and then for anything over that it's $2 per $100 of value. I was also told that once I put the rider on (for my bikes) I no longer have a deductible.

It also covers theft "away from home".

I use Westland Insurance. They charge NOTHING extra for your bike. $500 value or $5000 value - you pay the same price.

Westland had a sweet policy but, according to others who insure with them, they have changed it. When you renew it might be different.

thanks to all for the good info

that's what happened to me with Allstate - used to be 100% coverage, no rider, but when i renewed they changed it.
