Well, Shit finally hit the fan today.
After only about 3 short months, I broke my Specialized Stumpjumper HT (2002).
I didn't crack it or anything, but what happened was the dropout.
Apparently, Specialized had a warranty concern with the 02 M4's saying the dropouts were machined incorrectly or something.
Basically what happened in my case (which was different from my buddy Dave's) was that under any hard power, the brake side of the QR would wrench out of the dropout and the tire would rub the frame and the chain would skip.
I had to stop every 100 yards and fix it when I was rolling in the big ring up hill. If I was in the granny, I had to stop every 40 feet or so. Pretty shitty.
After about 3 miles, I decided I had enough and casually rode it in.
I was riding in the parking lot, and grabbed a handful of rear brake and the wheel wrenched out again.
Good thing my new frame is coming eh?
Specialized is going to warranty my frame and send me a nice shiny 2004 Stumpjumper HT. I will be selling it right away. What do you think I should sell it for? I figure 450USD or so is not an unreasonable price, considering the 02 frames sell for 350USD used. This will be a brand new 04, never even built.
I technically count this as a frame breakage.
BAC: 1 (legit breakage, I had a forced breakage too)
Frames: 0 (none have killed me yet)
