ok, i try my best at dirt jumps, and i can pretty much hold my own if i'm on my hardtail. I have no trouble clearing the gaps or getting suffiecient air, but how the fuck do people like donahue get sooooo high off jumps that the rest of us merely get a few feet? it doesnt seem as if they preload taht much, or even pump the lips any more than everyone else, yet they get soo much higher. i know that speed can hinder you in terms of height. i find i get the best air when i go at a moderate speed, not insanely fast (on BMX style lips that are hella steep). how fast do guys like donahue go at jumps to get soo high?

I heard it explained to me once. You basicly do a bunnyhop off the jump except you do the bunnyhop very slowly. Don't take my word for it tho.:???:

Actually thats like what i do, sort of, on my hardtail. I sort of crouch down as im coming up too it, and then i start standing up a bit at the bottom, but ur going fast, so by the time you stand up, you should be at the lip.
I dunno, works for me

That actually kinda makes sense. Like pushdown/preload at the start, slowly starting to lift your wheel as you come up the jump, then suck the back up. Hmm...I'll have to try thinking about that next time I jump.
ya thats sort of what i do to get air off a jump. my big weakness is judging distance, control once im in the air and sticking my landings. i'm a cronic over shooter. :(

haha, same here dude, thats why big rythem sections are my weakness, i always end up landing flat and am off balance for the next hit.

That's why they call him, "Donahuge."

if you were to float a jump, you would feel it push you up, with increasing force as you move foward. you want to do the same.
pull up on the bars and push down with the pedals (as if you were bunny-hopping very slowly) through the jump with increasing vigor... at the very end you will need to let the rear of the bike come up or you will land bad.

His bike has fins and whatnot to direct him, give him lift and all that stuff... kinda like a plane.

I think it's all in the way he jumps........if you're confident on your bike then you're light off yoru bike in the air so you weight it down less and in effect you go higher.....I unno.....just a guess

helium in the tires:eek:
that has to be the most brilliant idea i have heard in my whole life
ill get my friend to try it first.
the pounds per square inch are waaay lighter....
This takes practice, it's like learning how to do a new move, practice practice practice see what works for you. I learned how to boost big recently when I was coming up to a road gap too slow, I knew I had to clear it so I did a weird motion and cleared it another 5 feet than i did when I was going much faster, i know this doesn't help much but you get the idea, now I can boost biag.

Like all sport, a lot of it has to do with timing and coordination. He's getting the maximum boost whenever he jumps.
The other part is leg strength. I saw Evan Holmgren hitting the jumps at Myrtle. On the last set, he wasn't going very fast at all, yet was getting big air. It was obvious he both very good leg strength and timing/coordination.

yea, i've noticed while dirt jumping that i can boost much bigger sometimes when im going slower. its weird. the first time it happened to me, it was somewhat surprising, cuz it was on this jump that you had to hip right into a berm-landing. and i went right over the berm. it was cool
its because going to fast can screw up your timing with the motion and kick, not to mention your control and distance. now if only i could get more consistent.
