View Full Version : Low Down on World Cup DJ's....just talked to Grouse

sir HUCK-A-LOT

k so here is the deal....all that are interested.

grouse is trying their best to get the world cup back and impress the UCI that they are focusing all their attention on the races and things that will help to insure they can get the event back. therefore the extra events such as DJ's have been sidelined.

HOWEVER

we have the oppurtunity to still make it happen.
for grouse to build the dirt jumps every year they ahve trucke din dirt and given us machine time (yeah chris us stealing that cat for the whole day was sweet) but it costs them $$$. I talked to dave howles the man in charge and the man with the plan.
he would very much like to see us back there again....but cannot spend any dough. so it is up to us to get some companies to sponsor the event and help pay for it.

now....i have a buddy who parents own a construction rental company. we might have access to be able to get a bobcat inf rom offsight and bring it in and help dig.
now this is all hypothetical and there are some major IF's involved still. dave is going to do a sight inspection and see what materials are still there and available for us to use as no one really has the money to pay for truck time to bring dirt in.

maybe talk amongst yourselves and see if we can get some corporate abcking to help with the finances of this. apart from construction equipment there isn't much. but anything will help.

email me at flowrider@shaw.ca if you got anything.

Andrew

**i'll know by wednesday afternoon a little more as dave will call me back with some more info. but right now we are somwhat on our way to getting somthing together**

Try to get King Kobata *sp to support the event with some dirt.

sir HUCK-A-LOT
06-30-2003, 03:15 PM
nope...i already got my buddies parents company gonna do it. they just clale dme back and are offering us free service and me and my buddy are gonna use the bobcats. so thats down. that was dope and a huge relief. grouse did say we could supply stuff when i called back so thats a huge boost right there.

i'll let you cool cats know more if i hear more.

wont work cho...as i said on msn....coke already has sponsorship rights on grouse so there would be conflicting sponsorships. lets try to keep it in the bike world. give our fellow companies a chance to step up and do their part.

Um....Chris just called me, he's still trying to get the dirt jumps going.... Andrew have you talked to Chris? Cause it's usually his gig.

As long as someone does it, I'll be happy. My gig, your gig, all of our gigs - to have a good time!;)

sir HUCK-A-LOT
06-30-2003, 05:03 PM
yeah....well chris i spoke with grouse earlier...my previous post above basically tells the story. we gotta do it all ourselves. i have already got organized free bobcats so me and my buddy will be pimpin around in those building the jumps up. of course its everyones gig all i want is some sweet jumps.

chris email me if you got any ideas on what to do. i was thinking same as last year but a little maller gaps with bigger lips. sound good???

we will need bros there with shovels helping us with the cats to place dirt and smooth stuff out. there is only so much you can do in those things

plus im still looking for hoses, tarps, a PA...maybe a tent (see if norco, JH or someone can hook us up) and then just swag from companies as prizes and stuff if we wanna actually do a comp/jam kinda thing.

post your ideas and we cans ee what we can make happen

the dirt issue is going to be a big one and may require us digging down a bit.
word from my buddy is we will be getting a huge excavator instead of a bobcat....though we may ge tboth in fact. this exacavator has a scoop the size of a car so it will be big lifting power.....

you just have to press refresh on the pix and u r good to go, ive seen alota excavators with plowing things on the front of the track things, so u can plow dirt around wiht it..im not talking about those 2 sided excavator + bobcat things, although wouldnt that work as well?

arny... how will you get a excavator and bobcat up the mtn??? it seems like it would be quite the treck up the old mtn highway with large equipment... i will be happy if you let me use the bobcat... ive always wanted to give it a go!

no we have to have qualified operators with experiance only allowed so sorry brad....maybe at the end when no one is looking.

the big bobcat(it is still made by them) actually is pretty quick and goes about 45km/h so i mean yeah its the road but its the only way up there. prolly take us a day and a bit to do and we will need a hand. nothing is a go yet but on wednesday i will find out for sure

I know this is secondary to the actual jumps going off, but we all know how having someone yabbering ups the entertainment factor.

met with grouse today...they ok'd us for the dirt jumps. there are some stuff i gotta take care of first before we go ahead and build. i gotta do a site inspection with the bobcat operators and we gotta see about material. there isn't much there and grouse said we can use the jumps from john henry so we may end up doing that if there isn't enough material. i know it sucks but at least it is somthing.
i gotta talk to gestev about the people who said they would sponosr...eric and jeremy i'll get back to you on that.

i'll keep you guys posted as soon a si hear more

well gestev has to OK any sponsors and seeing rocky already has rights to the event any bike sponsors wont work. so no norco tent or tape or anything cause it causes conflict.

grouse has a diesel pump up there and we can use that but must reimburse them for the cost...so i gotta find out how much we are talking about here but ya.

Hoots was in the hospital for a week last year, and guys like Kyle Strait didn't even want to jump them (thats his problem, I know, but....)

It would be good to have nice steep trickable jumps, ninja style, rather than big killer jumps that will send you to the Emergency room with one minor slip up.

k you guys heres the new low down

Grouse gave me the go ahead...Gestev gave me the go ahead...

so we are go for lift off.

one problem though. went up last night and it seems the dir ti had in mind to use is now gone and part of the area is taken on the side by the XC course. there is absolutly no dirt. not enough for even 2 landing if we were to use the JH kickers.
we are gonna have to use them if we want jumps. i dont want them i would rather get dirt like the rest of you but unless you got a buddy who owns a dump truck and has access to dirt we are out of luck. its gonna be ahrd enough to scrounge up some dirt just from the surrounding areas.

I don't care what any of you say those jumps made the World Cup what it was last year. If you bring in the John Henry ramps you're going to get the UGLIEST photo's on the best backdrop.

Guy's are more prone to get hurt on an OVER VERT ramp rather than one that shoots you to the tranny. Who wants to see 6 foot gaps when you have the room for a 20?

Wouldn't the fact that even Kyle Strait didn't want to ride it make you stoked? You have one of the biggest names in mountain biking having second thoughts...... Now that is what I would call a real show.

A joke? Id have to say that the FLOW SHOW MADE IT. ALL that skinnie riding. John hernery ramps would be rather ugly photos but isnt the idea of a DEMO to demonstate for the CROWD?

The 4x, dh and xc make the world cup what it is THE WORLD CUP. Think about how many people watched the xc race last year compared to a jump demo.

There was no "Gravity Events" last year. We were the only thing close. So they jumps are going to be toned down when the "Gravity Events" are going on and we expect a full crowd? You said it yourself, you plan on drinking up a storm at the 4X.

obiously with the 4 x at the bottem and you guys at the top no ones gonna bother making there way up on friday thats for sure. And toning them down does seem kinda silly seeing as more of an ideal crowd would be up there this year to appreatate it compared to last year. So yes toning it down does seem silly. I would much rather see shots WITHOUT the city in the back ground and maby with the PEAK in the background instead.

Sunday (another decrease cause the dh course is up on the peak this year and the cuts out of the way to get to from there ) Be sure to have the gondola ladie put the dj demo in her ride up speack (welcome abord the grouse moutinat super sky ride you are now taking the 1 mile trip over 2 billion people have taked in the past 16 years to the peak of vancover(that speach))

If the jumps are at the bottom of the mountain this year, it won't matter about the view.

lots of dirt would be needed.. 10 dump truck loads i bet for 3 jumps...

Scarface
07-07-2003, 01:10 PM
But even one dump truck load gets us that much closer right and they can have all the dirt back

bunny
07-07-2003, 01:23 PM
i talked to the guy i know about getting dirt, and he says the biggest problem is getting the trucks up the fire road... he says it's not the cost but they don't have alot of extra truck time available... and the fireroad takes a lot of time and the drivers hate it. but where is this going to be? if it is near the gondola base where they could go up the road he may be able to do it.
