It's definitly worth to come to Sun Peaks. They've got lots of super fun trails up there and most of them aren't too difficult to ride.

Anything you want, fire roads, fast and flowy, technical, steep, as much vert as you can handle in a day. All trails are marked green, blue, black and double black(the same as a ski-hill) and all trails are rated on steepness from 1-10. All major stunts are marked with signs easy and hard way around. No matter what kind of rider you are everyone can have a blast. See you up there.

Its totally worth it! I went up there last year. It was my first time on real trails and I barely knew how to ride but I managed. Theres something for everyone up there. You're totally good enough to ride at Sunpeaks.

"Get ready for race day on one of the most technical race courses on the planet! (downhill and cross-country)"
Does that mean there are two diff race courses or there is climbing involved in their dh course? Usually i associate any xc with climbing...

It was awesome, I rode it on an HT and by the third day of complete riding, I was pretty sore, everything hurt and all my muscles were tense. The village is cool and even better if you can go to the bar after a long day of riding. Not many stunts but a lot of fast and technical DH.

2000ft of vert EVERY RUN!
And it ain't smooth...it's rough...it's steep lotsa places....it's "wide open ya pansy" in some spots of the DH course....but "gonna OWN your ass ya bitch tech/steep" in most spots.....then there's the regular tracks....still sketch/steep at times/ always wet roots.
BTW.....wet roots at the coast seem much different from the slimey, wet roots we get here:D
You'll see:thepimp:
SunPeaks is a MUST at least once. A MUST!
Too bad the SunPeaks corporation isn't expanding/developing the hill:(

bad news: sweet one may be toast for the season. the creek changed direction and took out the trail.

Thx for for the update Leif:)...that rocks Dude:cool:
But too little too late for SunPeaks(the hill still rocks no matter what guys btw!).
So they're gonna change the BX...oh yeah:yawn: ...huge risk there:rolleyes:
The creek changed course? Oh, sucks to be SunPeaks...poor bastards:rolleyes: .

SunPeaks DOES ROCK! guys.....don't get me wrong....but they need a serious shot up side the head to keep this hill a destiantion resort for MTB'ers for yrs on end.
This hill has the POTENTIAL to OWN THE SHIT out of Whistler if they just WOULD DO IT!!!!!

That's bad, Sugar to Sweet one is the all time fav, I always liked taking new peeps in there.

Even though there are management problems on how mtbíng is preceived, the hill still rocks and is a fantastic place to ride, with a BroCard a seasons pass is only $150 and you can ride for nearly 100 days.

Sun Peaks really is one of my fave places to ride. Such a nice change from whistler and the shore. If you're into speed (the kind that leaves you with bugs stuck to your teeth and a shit-eating grin to show for it) flowy steeps, and some stunts, too, it's a great place to check out.

A huge bonus is that the people in Sun Peaks are great - all the locals are friendly and helpful - they LIKE tourists, because they need them, as opposed to other, more populous mtn resorts where there are so many tourists that even the tourists start to hate them.

Everyone should take a trip to Sun Peaks and Kamloops at least once a year. An easy four hour drive and a nice change from the riding here.

I'm thinking of riding there on my way home in mid july :)
Sounds like a good investment, and my buddy is the chef at the Delta hotel up there, so could be good for a meal ;)

Sugar & sweet one were my favorite trails on the hill , too bad

we 1st went in late summer 01 and things were cool, stunts were being built...there was evidence of activity to make things better,we rode with the guy who was in charge of doing maintenance and patrol and things were looking pretty cool.

we went there early season 02 and there were trees down ,broken stunts & stuff not maintained in general. The guy we talked to and rode with the year before was walking around the village and he obviously had a inside job .

I don't know what it like this year but I still say go,1st time I rode there it definatley improved my riding

Its rough and steep,it will beat you up pretty good on an HT and you want definatley want GOOD brakes & beefy tires

after a day at sunpeaks I needed to spend 1.5 hrs every nite tightening bolts , spokes, ect on 4 bikes

Get your insurance in order and expand the hill!
Think long term!! SunPeaks is a destination resort....destinded(sp?)for only hiking and biking during the summer!
EXPAND the biking during the summers....they will start to come for a season or two....but after that...once the word spreads.....EVERYONE AND THEIR DOG will WANT/NEED to come here!

Jeeze:mad:
woah, the corp isn't that bad. I worked for them for 6 years.

It isn't a major insurance problem, it's how many injuries there are, and there are a lot up there. If there are too many injuries then things have to change.

It isn't ONLY for hiking and biking, a lot of the tourists that are up there golf, and tour buses of people that just want to ride the chair. They actually don't make a lot of money off of the mountain biking, it's a small part, but of course that is changing.

So before you complain and say the corp sucks maybe you should do a little investigating before you make statements like that.

oops...had some beers there, kinda went off:o
Some of that was definitely uncalled for:o

Not SunPeaks could be better than Whistler as a whole or anything:rolleyes: Just strictly refering to the trail potential up there....I realize both hills are awesome, just different.
But SP could have everything Whistler has and then some. STRICTLY as a rider on a trail. Not the community.

I don't think sunpeaks could ever own whistler

I seen cubic bucks being spent when I went to whistler, dedicated maintenance workers with a mini shovel,

no way Sunpeaks could compete with that shit and its not close enough to a major market like Vancover to do so,but go and compare the 2 hills for yourself

you still swinging chairs this year Gizmo?

Well that's what I mean. SP would have to really step it up and invest the cash.
But their call I guess....I'm sure they know better than me what will bring in cash vs investment from the business side of it.

It's such an awesome mtn...it pains me to see so much potential going to waste. But then it's not my cash on the table:lol:

The runs are twice as long, and there are no crowds.

so...i just hiked sweet one and the creek did not wash out anything. no idea what my buddy was talking about. and if the amount of maintenace they did on it recently is any indication, then it should be open.

Did they finish the two bridges on the left thru the gulley at the bottom, they were about 60% done at the end of last year. Good on ya Giz, I love SunPeaks, excellent runs, and low crowds.

if you mean the bridges crossing that drainage pit just before the last creek crossing at the bottom, then yes.

no crowds means no money for development or maintenance...this is after all a business and they gotta make money or close .

this also means they will never realize their full potential

there are plenty of locals here willing to help out. they know that, but dont care. whenever the big races come up they call on the local riders to help maintain the course, but if they catch you do maintenance aside from those events, they give you shit for it.

weren't the bc and canada cup races promoted by the owner of java cycle which I heard is now tit's up?We ran into him on twisted sister scouting the course before the races last year

SO what is gona happen with the race scene at sunpeaks??

I would think as a corporation SP would want to have full control over ANY development on the mtn,so when you are working on a race they have control over what you do ...and anything you do right or wrong they ultimatley have responsibility for,

tahnx for all the loads up Gizmo, was I trippn or did all those liftys look REALLY hungover every morning?

Java Cycle is gone, so I am not sure who would be promoting the races now, well besides Sun Peaks.
I am pretty sure the Canadian Cup finals are up there this year, but I am not 100% sure.

No problem :) Did you ride up there a lot in the summer?
You are probably thinking of the 2 guys that always looked hung over. One is just that like, and the other guy was just an ass.

Sun Peaks is awesome!
Best place I have ever rode, loved it so much!
It's soooooo dry, so you can just rip... no crowds at all (although that's not good for the mountain, it makes for fun riding for me)
Thank you for the free day Christina
Some trails aren't too hard, and some are really fun.
I recommend Sugar for an end of the day ride, if you can ride most of the other trails at least.
Sun Peaks is a blast and I'll be back every chance I get :D
