Well, in just under an hour I am heading to Seymour to do an XC, casting my Team NS to the side for the evening, and trying it on my new hardtail.

I have not ridden a hard tail on the Shore since I de-commissioned my 98 Rocky Mountain Oxygen Race in 2000 when I got my first dually, an RM-6.

About 8 months ago, after years of fun full susp riding (interupted when I used the Oxygen for the 24h of Adrenaline races in Silver Star), I broke out the Oxygen for a full overhaul to get back into the XC stuff too.

Upon the rebuild, I found a crack in the head tube. Unfortunate. Rocky was good to me and set me up with a 2002 Oxygen, perfect. So I built it up and did several XC rides at SFU, rocking the V brakes and all.

Then, I had an opportunity to get a more Shore (abusable, jumpable etc) ht by swapping frames with a friend and doing a bit of juggling with a friend at my lbs.

I ended up with a 2002 Brodie Evolution 16". Sweet. Got a 98 Z1 BAM (mint condition), stripped the paint down and refinished it in metallic grey, and put brande new Bomber decals on it. New Race Face turbine LP's, and some new Hayes discs (8" front, 6" rear). I just finished the bike 2 weeks ago and have ridden it once at SFU. Good stuff.

So, tonight I am going to ride it UP Seymour and do Coiler and Pangor. I am looking forward to it, I've never ridden a ht with disc brakes, or more than 2" travel until now, and never had such a small frame to throw around. I will likely get dismantled on it, but I am ready for it and really looking forward to ripping it up on it.

So, when you guys tonight blow by a guy limping along on a wee little battleship grey Evolution, say Hi, cause it will be me picking my way down the hill. STOKED!!

I am an idiot. I meant Corkscrew....Typically I ride Cypress so those trail names are etched in my brain!

That was FUN!!! Man, what a difference, its a whole new ballgame going from a big monster bike to that. I think I did ok...the climb up is cake..42 minutes with a good break halfway up. I find it easier than riding up SFU (the trail up the back side).

Going down was a blast! I walked a few things that I would ride over while carrying on a conversation on my big bike, but that was the fun in it, getting a whole new perspective of the trail. I want to put a higher quality, more aggresive front tire on, my $20 Kenda just doesn't touch the Michellins on my NS.

Stoked indeed. Pangor was super fun! I enjoyed it more on my small bike than on the big one, and I am stoked to go back for more!

Funny huh? Dumb it down a bit in some ways, boost it up a bit with the technology and it's nice middle ground to practice the art of riding a sharp knife instead of the mush machine. My squishee's have been drop kicked for good...

Yeah, it was a cool change. I found myself seeing completely different lines and riding things in ways I had not before (well, recently...I began riding like most of you..on an el cheap Maxam Overdrive, canti's, toe clips and the ultra high performance Rock Shox Quadra R).

I've laways had, and will continue to have both xc'able bike and a DH bike. SO fun!

I'll never go back to a hardtail:lol:

Props for doing so, takes a lot more skill and guts to ride that bike down that stuff.
