Did anybody else see the xc dude bust his face on a-line sunday morning?
He went right over the bars on the first table and landed square on his face--with an xc helmet. My buddy and I were first on the scene. Home boy was in la la land for about 5 minutes. The dude was face down in the mud and groaning and mumbling some shit. I was telling him everything was fine and it didn't look that bad until blood starting streaming out from under his face. We rolled him over and home boy was seriously bloody. huge gash to the nose, the biggest freaking bump i've ever seen on a forehead, and he must have broken some teeth or somthing because when he tried to spit nothing but blood and flem came out.
Took his ass away on the helicopter. He must have missed the sign that read "large jumps ahead, gauge speed accordingly"
Did anybody see the guy who cased after the a-line drop and got carted off? People were dropping like flies on sunday. Cut that shit out or they will never open the cool new stunts near the biker-x.
Peace.

Poor guy. Accidents happen though, I've seen skilled riders make poor mistakes on similar stuff and pay the price too though, its all part of the game I guess.
Carnage is to be expected, anywhere you get that volume of riders on fast trails you are going to have some go down. I think if you look at the numbers of un-injured vs. injured, the ratio is pretty reasonable given the level of risk.
I don't think it will affect the opening of the lower stunts. Whistler knows the risks the mountain and terrain parks present, and they have disclaimers and insurance to cover there end.
Good times!!

Your not the person that I said "passing on your left" and then you swerved to the left are you? Because when I caught up to your friend about 1 minute later I yelled "passing on your right" and he swerved to the right!
So just so everybody knows... If you hear passing on the ____ , you move to the OTHER side.
Hey lady gravity, I think I was going to buy your dainese from you this last weekend, I stopped in N. Van and bought a large.. My buddy is pretty small, I'll ask him if he is interested. I paid through the nose for that thing!!!

just to clarify i didn't case any jump....shit i would ahve overshot it if anything. but from what i gather i landed in a rut and had the bars yanked from my hand passing cho on the jumps after the a-line jump
we actually saw the guy that crashed snday morning at the top still at the hospital. breathing through a tube. face was mashed up. not a pretty sight. that jump at the start needs to be lengthened a bit. its way to short and sooo easy to overshoot.
i dont suck:rolleyes:

a lot of people complain about the stutter bumps at whistler
but i think there great, they really bring out the gap between riders, youll get some one who is expeirenced rider flying through the bumps and is ocnfident on the jumps and youll get some newb who is slow through the jumps but is in control because he isnt confident with the bumps because they suck, if those bumps werent there newbs would be carted off so much more ...

there isnt really that much bad accidents, considering how many riders they have and how many runs each one does, and you only get like 5 serious accidents a day, so like cory said, the ratio is pretty reasonable.
consider 200ppl(not a lot) each does 10 runs(not a lot), thats 2000 runs, and only 5 accidents. and on sunday, i'm sure there were way more than 200 ppl and most ppl do more than 10 runs.

5 serious injuries/day is pretty high. If you count serious as ambulence needed, that's a pretty high ratio.

yeah....a-line is a death trap. seriously one fall there and you are gonna be hurt. its so solid the ground and you are moving so quick hospital looks like a nice thing wheny uo are done with it.
i think they need to have a big jump or somthing right near the start that makes it so it scares off potential people who may wander down the trail.
granted i got hurt and i should know what i am doing...but there are mnay that ride that trail and ont know what they are doing.
whistler has addressed this with more signs and stuff butt hey still need a scary fist jump like the bikercross to ward off any people thinking they might be upt o it. for safety sakes.

Isn't that why they let the bears roam around -- pick off the XC riders trying to take on A-line?
Also I heard a rumor that Whistler's bike park was gonna be manditory full-face helmets, but I guess that's not happening?

the so called rut Andrew was the ditch. I was the guy up the hill from your crash diverting traffic (With my bike upside down on the ground). Just beneath the tranny of the table (about half way down) was a skid mark where the trail leads to the ditch on the right. Looks like you got wide a bit trying to pass Cho Dogg and caught the ditch. The skid marks led right to your crash site (Well skid then bike crash marks).
You washed out in the ditch dog.
And BTW, don't quit riding...just quit riding Whistler with no armour or full face....

Yeah, don't quite riding. I would love to quit riding, it would probably save me lote of money and time but I don't think I could even if I wanted to.
YOu just have to be smart. Full face is definately mandatory, the same could be said for body armour. That's your face man!! If you can't afford a FF and you live at home I'm sure your parents would buy you one, especially if you describe that guy breathing through a tube. "mom, I don't want to breath through a tube"....
It's not a matter of if you bail its a matter of when. I put down some serious cash (which Idon't relly have right now) for some body armour. I couldn't stop thinking about falling off my bike and slaming my spine on a rock- paralizing myself. Take your hand, reach around and touch your spine. Not a whole lot of padding huh. Being paralized because of a bike accident may get you free french fries and sympathy but it won't get you laid and your life would never be the same. THe last thing I want to see is people trying to raise money to buy me a wheelchair racer.
Something to think about.

You should check out the dainese safety jacket. The straps on the front really prevent your shoulder from moving way back in the event of a crash. The would probably rip off in a crash but that backward (and downward) pressure is what dislocates shoulders and tears apart AC joints. I tore the piss out of my AC joint and was out for 6 months!
Armour is the bomb. I'm still trying to convince my girlfriend to have sex with me while I wear it.:P

dumb thing is i have a full face....it was even up in whistler with me....in the truck
i didn't expect to be doing the mtn all day. the day before i had been sessioning the slopestyle with the others cause whistler invited us to. they closed it off cause they need to beef up the safelty on a few of the things. i didn't need my full face for that stuf cause it wasn't really gnar gnar.
Jay...good to know it was a ditch. i knew it had to be somthing like a rut or whatveer, cause all i remember is having the bars ripped outta my hands and having no where to put them and then going down right before i got knocked out.
it will be interesting to see wher ei was and stuff because i have no clue where i was after i had fallen. i knew the area but last time i was concious was whebn i was going off the lip for the second jump of those 2 that heads down towards the berm back into the trees.
and how did the ambulance get to me??? is there a road??

Dude, you got knocked out? That is brutal. I'm glad to hear that you didn't break any bones or tear the shit out of your connective tissue. Or did you?
Did you get a cat scan at the hospital? Anytime you lose consciousness most doctors willl require you to get a CT to make sure you don't have an embolisim (broken blood vessels inside your brain).
A note to everyone.. If you blank out due to a hard crash go to the hospital even if you feel fine.
My cousin's best friend fell of a ladder painting the house and knocked himself out. He felt dizzy and confused but decided to just relax and sleep it off. He went to bed that night and died in his sleep from a cerebral hemorage!!!!!

Andrew there is a road right to the corner where you crashed. They parked the "Truck" about 10 feet away from you. It was nice and safe of you to crash right beside the road. At least the boys didn't have ot carry you very far.

your not really going to put PB on it are you? It was a joke.
One thing you may wan't to look into is glucosomine if you tore your shoulder up. It is a suplement that really helps aches and pains associated with tendons and ligaments. it also helps tissue regeneration which is super slow in your shoulder area.
Other than that, your best bet is to rest and try to get yourself some sympathy sex.

I was tryin' to con my moms into spanserin' me for a Safety Jacket, but she wasn't feelin' it...
Then she watched me while I was riding the Dual Slalom at Whistler and she was talkin' to some man about armour and as soon as I was done for the day she's all "When we get to Vancouver tomorrow, you're going to go find some chest armour! None of the soft padded stuff though, you're getting Plastic!"
I was all X-D
So now I get to get a Safety Jacket, but Large don't quite fit on the elbows and Medium feels a little bit tight... I guess I could bulk up, but I've been sayin' that for years...
All in all, it costs less to buy the most expensive armour than it does to live your life in a wheelchair. The price of armour should NEVER be an issue.

Andrews crash had nothing to do with other riders. He was going too fast and tried to pass Cho Dog and blew his line, Clipped the ditch and wadded it up. His biggest mistake was not wearing his full face (in the truck) and not having armour.
Crashing is part of the sport unfortunatly. Minimizing the damage is the important thing.
Mr. Arnold learned a lesson though...I hope.

It really depends on how you damage the skin.. this guy had a 4" long gash on the forearm and it wasn't a clean cut.. it was all jagged because the skin was torn rather than sliced. I'm pretty sure he would have got stitches, but because the cut was so messed up, bad scarring is pretty much guaranteed.
So after the skin and scar tissue heals he'll have to get a lot of work done to try and touch it up back to the original state. Scar tissue probably doesn't take ink as well or at least won't take ink the same (I don't know because I've never had to have a scar tattooed).. now later down the road if the guy puts on some weight the skin will stretch less evenly because scar tissue has different elasticity than regular skin...
