OMG there are still animals in that valley? I would have thought Whistler Bylaw would have done something about it, or at least relocated the bear to the garbage dump, where it belongs.

thats why you should never go to B-line
try A-line for more safety:)
that d be scary if you ran into a cub with its mother:injured:

ya dude i saw the bear, it just lookes at you and then eats some more grass, crazyness eh
didnt somebody hit a bear on top of a table on a-line last year? this is the reason why everybody should be on a vps :)
the Bear is so used to the noise from riders it totally ignores us....
we were yelling at it from the "Fitz" yesturday, it didnt even look at us...
and we were hovering above it by maybe 15feet....
last season i ran itno the cub and momma bear at Crab apple... that was a freaky moment...
needless to say i turned around and went back to A-line, ahahahhah.....

Try not having a bike. While filming on a-line last weekend a noise came from the shrubs beside me and a bear walked right out infront of me. It turned and looked at me the walked right across the train into the shrubs on the other side. That's why I always carry my trusty bear spray.
I sure would be nice to have the option of just riding away.

whats it gonna do??? sit down with you and have a cup of tea???
bears will very very rarely chase you most of the time they pin it in the oppostie direction
my brother rode into a bear a few years ago on the valley trail. oth of them took off in opposite directions pretty fast.

wow, when did we go back to 5th grade?
what on earth convinced you that yelling at a bear was a good idea? are you one of those people that are lift hecklers?
"look a downed skier/boarder/biker..lets spit and yell at them!"

The bear could probably run faster than you could ride.
The bear has to be pretty close for the spray to be effective. Always back away so you get the best possible shot, if necessary. Also, that small stuff doesn't work. You need the shaving cream can sized that shoots a huge fog.

Good Point
Yeah I've got the huge thing of spray, and it says effective within 20 metres. So like you said, you'd have to be pretty close.

i love it when people read more into a post then is there....
Sean do me a favor if u dont know the situation, dont add to it....
the reason we were trying to get the bear's attention is cuz it was moving towards the exit for the "lift" ....we were trying to convince teh bear to move in a different direction....

fair enough.
BUUUUUUUUUUUUT;
how was anyone supposed to know from your sentence of:
we were yelling at it from the "Fitz" yesturday, it didnt even look at us...
and we were hovering above it by maybe 15feet....
that is what you meant? not everyone was there, and being on a public forum, you cant expect each person to know the situation you experienced....
do i strike you as the kind of person who'd yell at a Bear for no reason ????
by the way, i'd love to back to grade 5.... im sick of paying taxs...
:D

no, you dont actually :) my comment was meant more of a sarcastic release than anything...
i find you to be far more responsible and down-to-earth than most..
but ive seen some seriously responsible people do amazingly dumb things...
on the same topic as back to grade 5...
ive always thought that being 11 or 12 again would be perfect..
why? you have enough freedom to do mostly what you want with basically no responsibility that would prohibit fun....sure you may have to work, but the money you make goes to toys, not rent/taxes/etc...
id LOVE to be back with ya in 5th grade...except i'd want to keep my current brain and all my knowledge, just be half my age :)
oh and i wanna still be able to drink beer...
:D
cant give that up...

Keep in mind wind direction when you shoot one of those off too.

That's why I usually wrassle them. Give them a good noogie, and they'll stay away. :D
I've only opend up the spray once, on a couple big dogs that thought they would attack me. It was the smaller kind, and didn't work very well. I didn't get the dogs in the eyes until they were 4 feet away.
