There's afire road that goes from squamish to the point of indian arm, you hafta look at a map to understand it. From what i gather, there are a lot of old school routes through watersheds from brittania to north and west Van. Rabbit at the cove knows of them, and LeeLau too prolly :)

apparently it takes about 4-5 hours each way. I'm interested in doing it in the summer in late July or Augest, but probably only one way. Going from Indian Arm its uphill for the first part then nice downhill the rest into Squamish
Been there done that. It's a puppy dog ride from the end of the arm to Squish, like only 25 miles. And from there you can spin back down the Hwy to the Furrey Creek cutoff, climb up over the drainage divide and spin down to Grouse. Of course there's watershed guys driving the road so there's another element you need to deal with.
I watched a guy who was on the brink of death on one ride of that loop ingest a couple cheeseburgers in Squammy and proceed to come back to life and put the hurts to everyone like he had forgotten the first third of the ride. Freaks...
that'd be cool but whats the fine for getting caught in the watershed?
I'm not advocating that everyone do this Pete.... Kinda like me running around in the early days playing dodge the rangers with a buttload of tools on my back you know?
I've never been slapped a fine in spite of numerous run-ins in the past (luckily I knew one of the patrol guys). If you piss 'em off enough they will take your picture and stuff into their mugshot file (yup, I'm in there along with a lot of my amigos) so if they see you again they will do whatever the threat of the moment is. It may have changed in the last few years though as the watersheds are under much tighter scrutiny.
You know what I'd do? I'd just catch the train to Seton Portage or similar and ride back. Less potential grief and a more significant ride.
Go get 'em killer :D

well im interested, but im thinkin that maybe i will bike from squamish and return, that way I don't have to pay the $85, but what are the chances that I will be stuck at the top of the Indian Arm??, cuz if that happens I'm really screwed and i for sure won't have any camping gear

They don't fine but its not that nice a ride. There's way better riding with nicer views in that area but most of it is fire roads. There's not a ton of singletrack in the area between Squish and Vancouver because of terrain; logging access; remoteness etc
Night ride... preferrably in the hammering rain with some dudes who can really open 'er up. That's where the fun lies.

I did it with Chas dik flex etc so we weren't going slow but its pretty wide fire road without a lot of good views. I think the Meslilloet trails and some of the Squamish Valley trails are better views and are the same old same old fire roads too. Jmo
Sure, never really rode it for the view. But a night loop from DC without the use of a car was the name of that game. Just a 75 mile big ring style rip.

well a few of us are gonna do this ride but start in squamish, but would anyone know what the chances of getting stuck at the top of the indian arm are??? like for whatever reason too many flats or somehting cuz we'd have to make it back to squamish
Assuming your bike isn't a bucket of bolts, not likely you will have any problems if you carry your spares and don't ride like a ding dong. It's just a gravel road with a climb or two on it.

its a big climb. But just a gravel road with really nice views. stay on the mainline and don't go down the Mesliloet road or the road to Skypilot and you'll be fine. Its the same road that the Sea to Sky race does. Start at the green dynamite shack in the Mamquam access road in Squish. You'll ride through the watershed and its steep the first few K but mellows out after that.
On the way south there's some sections you can get going at 70kmh or so - really effing fast.
On the way out you can get air on the waterbars so keep your heads up there. If you crash you're going to lose lots of skin.
There's not a lot of water on the trail so keep that in mind too. If you make good time - at the end of the trail there's a good hike - or a hike-a-bike and bike to High Falls. That takes about 1.5 hrs round trip
