This sucks, and i just bought a new bike, a Specialized BigHit expert. what do you guys think i should do?:(

Dude, your 16, you can drive a car, just tell them your more likely going to die driving to the trail rather than on the trail. Get them to watch you ride. explain that everthing has risks, And you always ride with in your limits.

Tell your parent if they don't let you bike, you'll get lazy, then fat, then you'll start smoking crack.

thats a good idear but i mest up on the login thing were you tell your age. i am only 15! that means i cant drive a car. this is all i do every day after school. riding is my life. not only that but i have been doing this for like 6 years. ontop of that, my parents found out from a neighbor calling them after seing me do a 12 foot drop.

why would would they do that? i am surprised that at their age they havn't got the forsight to see that they are causing more damage to you than biking will.

i never remember my perants have that much power over me. something like this would have been "wrong" to do.

how long have you been riding?

In my OPINION:

a: your parents sound kind of overprotective.

b: sounds to me like this is an opportunity to show your parents how mature and responsible you can be by entering into a discussion and calmly presenting to them the reasons you feel biking is beneficial to your health and well-being.

As a parent with 16 year olds that ride, get your Mom and Dad out to watch you ride. Take them on a shuttle ride and show them the controll and expertise you have with a bike. Don't take them to the narliest stunts but something you can do easily and in controll. Explain to them the safety factor, controll, protection, full face helmet and body armour. I'm sure if you lay it out so that they see that you are in controll and well protected they will let you ride. Good luck. Stay calm, act mature and responsible, as a parent we are suckers for that.

Tell them about how much money they are making you throw away if you have to get rid of the bike or if you can't ride. Tell them stuff like what am I going to do with the money if you sell the bike. Tell them you are going to take up something like skateboarding or some otehr "extreme sport" and tell them you won't wear safety equipment because it isn't cool to wear it. Just use examples that can be worse than biking and less safe. Tell them that it is what you are going to do and if they won't support you then they aren't good parents or somethin like that.

well maybe ur neighboiur should mind their own business when it comes to what ur doing, at least ur not out doing drugs and all that every dy after school...and yeah show them what u ride and what stiunts are safe and that you make sure there safe before riding, and that you make sure everything is safe with ur bike too....i dont really know much else to suggest to ya

Break out the power point.

If you're a responsible young person, make a good impression. Tell your parents the benefits of cycling..i.e. exercise, the value of personal goals, comradery and improved state of mind.

Telling/attempting to drop 10 foot to flat concrete isn't going to change the mind of many parents.

Personally I'd rather tone down my riding style than not ride at all. Perhaps strike a comprimise with them?

well..........I just turned 29 years old, and if it weren't for 2 wheeled demons( motos, MTB, BMX whatever) I don't know what I'd be doing. All thru high school I dreamed of having a cool truck and partying ( basically being a loser), but I refused to sell my dirtbikes (MTB didn't come till I was 21). I've tried to quit, but it is my life. I have been hurt so many times it's stupid...........but my parents always backed me up, kind of..........they obviously cringe every time they see, anything I do on my bikes, but they still love to watch me race. As anyone that knows me, knows very well, I don't respond to not getting my way that smooothly all the time, so I think my folks just back off and let me do my thing.

As Kn was saying, be reasonable, be honest with yourself- do you drive your Mom nuts with riding shit everywhere, are you always breaking shit, and having no money for new shit(mom pleeeeeaaasssee....). Maybe not but I was, and you know that the injury thing, might just be one of the reasons. I hope it works out for you dude........like I said if it weren't for bikes(and snowboards. and girls...) I'd be a fat lazy redneck, workin at the mill back home, instead I guess I'm a skinny lazy redneck, with no job livin in Burnaby.:thepimp: -c-

Who bought your bike? You or them? If they bought it, they have a right to take it away.

If that's what they're going to, prove to them that you are responsible for your actions. Show them what biking means to you, and how you feel about it. If they still don't agree, get a job and buy a bike yourself.

Man that sucks, my parents have tried to stop me from riding, but now they know that just makes me want to ride more and more and its got to the stage where they are really supportive. If you've been seriously riding from the age of 11 you're obviously going be a good rider! Show them how well you ride, you'll find that most parents like seeing their kids doing well :D

Say that you are careful and mature, but don't just say it, you've got to show them. I hope it works out man. Ride On.

reasons my mom cant take away my bike

-i bought it
-it keeps me fit
-it gets me out of the house
-it makes me happy
-i dont ask her for money to go to the mall anymore
-i dont have time to party anymore

things i do to make her feel comforetable

-i make her watch bike vids and tell her it will be a long long time b4 i do anything like that
-i take her out side and show her the curb, and i say "thats how i big i go"
-i let her buy me all the armour she wants
-she knows all the time effort and dedication thats put into it, she also knows there are tonnes of people out doing it, and that i never go alone..

alot more people die from skateboarding then from riding (expecally the young ones) but like someone said already, if you bought it, then have no right to take it away.

last time my parents pulled that shenanigan I came home drunk and stoned. but don't do that.
its really true, since this season has gotten under full swing I've been biking and digging way too much no time to drink.
Just tell them your going for a ride around the block and just do that alot, and soon enuff you'll be free.

Jeez! My parents are happy I ride! I mean, they see the videos and say "That's crazy", they see the stuff I ride and say "That's crazy", but they're happy I'm getting out and getting exercise and doing something I like.

It might help that they're both very outdoorsey people, and like setting lofty goals (my mom recently ran a marathon for her 50th birthday for example).

i rode so much in that time span, my knee is better and i can do so much more now on my bike ..

plus i can play all those sports again ..

THANKS mom N dad for letting me ride my bike while my knee was healing ..

The trick is not to tell your parents how you ride. I simply tell my mom im going out of a ride in the local woods, or when i go for a road trip im just going to a mountain somewhere. If they dont know that your doing 10 footers, then they wont worry about u and try to stop you!

I'm probably more lucky then all of you here :D I'm so glad!
My dad is 100% supportive of me biking, my mom doesn't really like it but she knows she can't stop me. The sweet thing is my dad part manages a sporting goods store that sells bikes too, so he can get me cost price on bikes. Theres no way I'd be biking without my dad, it's awesome! :)
My parents don't even care too much when I get hurt, like they don't freak out or anything. 3 days ago I had a seizure and was in the hospital for 14 hours, hooked up to IV. They know I'm gonna keep riding, so my mom just said I shouldn't hit that jump again. My dad even offered to give me rides to one of the local mountains when I came up with the idea of building a trail during my down time. (I started it yesterday)

My rents are preaty good aboot my riding. Whenever I come home from riding and I don't have a smile on my face my dad just asks how much it's gonna cost to fix it. He also is sort of clueless to what is going on for me cause the only times he has seen me riding was when I was at my XC races. But my mom (the super over protective one) came to Hammerfest last year to watch me race, she was sooooooo freaked out after she saw the guy bail and break his neck. I wasn't allowed to ride for a couple of weeks till she was ok with my riding again.
