i am at a loss of direction as to what i should do!
if you're gonna build a trail make the stunts WELL. there are trails that are nice locally here. not extreme just something to ride on, like the shed basically. and the builders make them with pinner wood and i ride up on to half the stuff and it breaks away from under me!
now i want to fix it and ive tried to find out who makes this stuff so i can offer to help but apparently one of the trails (stinger) has been abandoned so thats my new baby, but another, Grave Digger, is just rotting away and no one knows who it is that ,made it! just today i had a ladder break right under me and i ended up putting a couple big chunks of wood in a big X on the start of it to let riders know. just i wanna fix em up and i dunno who to talk to.
from what i can see the builders dont really know what they're doing... but i hate to slag builders. but when stuff falls apart under me after its uncool. and these guys instead of getting rid of old ladder sections...throw them in the bushes next to the trail. so you have rotted out wood with like 20 nails sticken out of it!
think i should just go do it and not change where they are, just improve/strengthen what needs it?
P.S. yes i put a large ammount of my time towards building. but more in drops/jumps. not so much stunts though i've made them before in my driveway and stuff.

If somebody is building on a trail and their stuff is shit and/or falling apart do everybody a favour and just go ahead and rebuild it. And build it to last. Building shit that falls apart is plain stupid, people can get hurt that way. If stuff is crap or rotting or falling apart fix it up! No self respecting trail builder will call you out for fixing something that was broke to begin with. If they give you a hard time let me and m33p know and we will take care of them for you.

If anyone calls you on it just explain it broek under you. If you build a bridge Cam that you can bounce on, You can call it solid:D
Got at her and fix those trails. Good on you.

well..i know what im doing tommorrow :)
meshing a log ride, splitting wood for planks and building a tranny for stinger.
i sort of felt the same way, that its dangerous but on the other side i dont want to be interpreted as a trail nazi when a rider comes by and im ripping planks off the thing and the stuff is all broken from being rotted out :( (sad, but a true reality)...
my plan? just explain myself.
explaining all the gear in my trunk at the border will be a different matter hahahaha

Log rides with mesh are fucking stupid. Learn how to ride and you don't need mesh. The only excuse for mesh is on steep inclines.

this is an uphill logride that is slick 24/7 with crap even with notches. its just tires carry it up on there.
its about 20 feet long...and goes up to about 4 ft high..3-1/2? who knows. who cares. you get my point.
ive done it without, just it has to be really dry or you spin out and jump off.

Yea, thing about mesh on a log ride is if you slip out, it eats up your bike.
Go ahead and do it, if the builders haven't done anything about it, either they haven't seen it, and won't notice the fix, or they're too lazy to do anything about it, and will be happy that you fixed it...

Definitely. Use roofing tile instead.

well i went to home hardware. 2.24$ a square foot of mesh, MAYBE a dollar for tiles that i can cut up easier than mesh. i may just get tha.
i went in today. celloected a bunch of stuff for supports/planks. piled it up. ripped off all the old planks/rooted out supports. got a main support dug in and nailed in with 12" badass nails (concrete nailes or something). all i know is that it aint goin ANYWHERE. got another support for a turn in the log ride that goes in to a mini coaster type motion on the log ride that makes it for from about 3-1/2 ft up to about 5 so that it turns right to a drop off a downwards ladder...
nothin huge...
just one of those fun things to do when you're lookin for something local. and this is just one stunt on the trail... im doin the whole thing. i spent about half an hour just clearing big downed logs and stuff off the trail and lining the edges of it with debris to prevent people hiking off it. im gonna have to reroute some sections.
whoever did the layout way back in the day really didnt put much thought in to the big puddles that lie in the low sections of the trail that they could've easily avoided by moving over like 5 feet...

show me all the skinny uphill (or even a lil downhill) logrides you can clean and then you can talk.. mesh or grip tape saves your bike a lot.

id rather deal with a little mesh than slide and smoke my face on a log ride if its a surprise fall... even just jumping off isnt too cool when its wet out cuz you end up rolling on the wet ground.
ive done the whole thing when it was wet and falling apart under me. it was scary and slippy as heck. i was washin out left right and center. that will all change when im done.

I haven't sacked myself, but I've seen guys who have.
That green slime that you get on log rides is really slippery. Try The Zipper at the top of C-Buster on a slimy day; it's pretty sketchy.
The first log ride at the bottom of Ned's was quite sketchy. I saw a guy slip off and whack his head on a boulder. He was OK as he was wearing a full face helmet. Only bad news was that it was a Troy Lee that he'd bought the day before and he put a nice crack in it.
A couple months ago Chris Mac layered that first log ride on Ned's with roofing shingles, and it now has very good grip.
Shingles don't cost too much, but they are really heavy.

The Scab is gone, the RM7 is in for warranty replacement.
I actually do have another bike, I just think it's funny how Optional gets all personally offended when someone has another opinion so I like to say inflammatory things.

Some crack near the shock bolt. It's kind of odd, I hadn't seen one cracked there before and neither had the shop.

An RM rep told me that the Switch rear end has been pretty reliable, and that the problem you describe was the only problem he'd seen with the Switch. That one cracked at the mount point on the front triangle.

I find mesh helps.....the log in my trail is non stop slimey, and no one wants to ride shit thats slippery all the time. When u have mesh on it.....then....you dont fall off.
I wish the builder of the now abandoned trail by my house would work on it, i dont have enough time with workin on my trail. His trail had wicked stunts, but NO flow and shit left undone and rough.....could use some fixing and be made pretty good.

trails need flow to be good. i think lots of people throw trails in with a bucnh of stunts and kinda connect em in the easiest route possible. but sometimes if you actually plan it out and get it flowy it makes the trail a million times more fun.
