Has anyone tried this combination and does it work?

I've got a Demo 7, and I've just picked up an atlas shifting chainguide and e-type XTR front derailleur. The shop's telling me i can't use these together but I'm not convinced. Has anyone run a e type derailleur with one of these chain guides and was it workable?

The only problem I can see is with the added thickness of the e-type derailleur offsetting the chainline/making the BB too wide.
You would be better off getting a guide that is compatible with an E-type. E13 has a really expensive option, or if you want to save money and get something that actually works, then the Stinger-E is your best option:

Man that looks perfect. If only I'd known about it before I bought the atlas one.

Why is it that you always feel like you got screwed when you take your bike to a shop arrrrgh. They're putting on a fucking LX deraileur for $50 so now I guess I've got a e type XTR front derailleur for sale.

Well do your homework first. And they told you it wouldn't work. Not the shops fault.
