Hey i just got my new bike (K2 Flyin Monkey) it's nice for me seeing how i just started serious mountain riding..... Anyways i was wondering if anybody could give my pointers on how to ride a wheelie for a while... Like i can get my wheel up but im like high in the air above my front wheel and i can pedel a little but i have to be perfectedly balanced and that last for about 3 seconds.... Last summer i saw some guys at my downhill mountain riding a wheelie sitting down.. Does anybody know how to ride a good wheelie? Thanks...... Also i try bunnyhopping and i can only get like 4 inches because when i push down before i lift my fron shocks absorv it... if anybody has any help i would appriciate it.. Thanks peace......
Im only 13 so dont diss me

welcome welcome....
the only advice i can give you about wheelie riding...
practice!
you will feel a balance point when you pull yourself back over your rear wheel and that is where you would manual...a little bit before that point is where you would pedal from...giving you a little push while pedaling that would make you on the balance point...
you have to know your bike in order to do what you are trying to do...
we all go through it....just hammer at it for a month non-stop and you will notice just how far you have come....

welcome.
MANY people preload ("compress") their fork/shock before bunny hopping. i do it, i find it helps me get even higher.
the thing that is most likely inhibiting your hops, is your feet. your arms oughta be strong enough to lift the bike at least a foot. you just need to jump with your legs (remove pressure from your pedals) to allow the bike to go higher.
as far as wheelies go - there are wheelies (where you pedal with the wheel in the air), and there are manuals (the one you described as "sitting down").
for manuals, its easier to lean back, while standing, and work the pedals with your legs, in relation to pushing/pulling on the handlebars. people say its easier without brakes, but i prefer tapping my rear brake if i feel as though i'm going to tip over backwards. practice makes perfect.
i can't do "wheelies" for more than 8-9 pedal strokes, so i don't have much advice i can give you in that field.
anyway, welcome, and enjoy your new ride.

If you're doing a wheelie (pedalling), it's going to be almost impossible to keep it up for long if your standing... try learning it sitting down and then go from there.

i know this might sound a little stupid but try rising your seat and then try to sit down wheelie, this will give you more leverage. As for bunny-hops are you lifting the whole bike at the same time or lifting the front first? Lifting the front first is probably the best way to do it and is commonly known as J-hopping.
Enjoy the forums, their a good bunch of lads on this board, best in the world if you ask me :D
I'm Smite and I'm on here a lot! Enjoy the forums and ride on, hope ur new ride treats you well.
practice. learn to feather your rear brake and that will help you stay in a wheelie. relax your arms and try to keep them extended. when you pull with your arms towards you, you wont hold it as long. lean back. if you do it this way, soon enough you'll be doing manuals too.

wheelies are sitting down, or standing up, as long as your pedaling. once you stop pedaling, its a manual. manuals are generally done standing, and using body movements in corraboration with rear brake to keep up. wheelies you sit down and use pedals, and occasionally brake to control up and down, and sticking a knee out to the side will tend to turn you.
key is PRACTICE:)

hey man, good to hear you are getting into riding. I've been riding a couple years and still can't wheelie don't get discouraged if it doesn't come right away.
As for bunny hops you should read the Jay Hoots article he does a really good job describing how to hop. Just remember a lot of it is in the wrists.

Welcome aboard djsofro. Like some of the members already said, practice a lot. Just don't get discouraged, some of us still suck at wheelies.:)

Some people on this board just generally suck, so dont let their negativity discourage you. My only advice is practice, Don't fight the bike, let it go with you.

if you can already do a catwalk then the only thing you need to do is practice your balance
to control side to side leaning use your legs if you start to fall to the left you should turn your right knee away from your bike to help pull the bike straight again
vise versa if you are falling to the right (use your left knee)
for forward and back movements is
1 - your rear brake is to bring your front end down if you are going to loop-out
2 - your rear brake will also slow you do if you get pedalling to fast for the gear you are in
3 - to correct the front from falling down you just have to lean back some and give yourself a couple good pedal strokes
if those pedal strokes are to hard, tap your rear brake a bit(feather)
just keep pedalling
