You have to start out in Sport/beginner and work your way through the ranks.

Yes you can go into expert level if you can show some results(like if you raced in the citizen) from last year, and if good enough your in.
Good Luck

God, don't you internet geeks know how to do a search?

You start in the lowest category for your age group and earn upgrades through the point system:

http://www.cycling.bc.ca/upgrades.shtml

No, you can't just jump into expert class.

What ever............l did it last year so l know it can be done. Just phone cycling bc and they'll help you out. They'll check your times and compare them to the class you wont to go in , if there good enough with say the top three in your class your in.
If your a fast DHer the last place you wont to be is racing with a bunch of slow beginners ( passing means a slow time). Know offence to the beginners.

2 wins gives you enough points to move up a class.

You need 10 points to move up.

win = 5
2nd = 4
3rd = 3
4th = 2
5th = 1
6th = 1
7th = 1
8th = 1
9th = 1
10th = 1
no points there after...

You should probably race Sport to begin with anyway. there are some pretty fast guys in sport. People that don't accumulate enough points to move up, or people that don't race often enough to move up are both in that Cat.

There are alot of sandbaggers in Sport too. Lots of local guys in the towns you race in (who know the terrain inside out) race when the BC cup comes. Lots of them don't have licenses either, so they race one or two a year, but may be really good.

The current structure of cycling BC offers little for n00bs. There is no more beginner class. There is no seperate citizen class either, so they race with the Sport guys and their times will bump you, even though they didnt spend the $100 on a License. So you don't necessarily race just against other licensec riders in your class, so you don't have the opportunity to place JUST amongst licensed guys, instead, anyone is game to race against you who is not licensed.

It is not uncommon to have the citizen guys in sport smoking the times of half the guys in expert.

Pretty shitty of you are trying to be competitive (place) when you are new to it. If you go in with the right attitude and don't care so much (or you are just plain super fast) this won't bug you too much. Just be aware.

If he was in Pro, would he not be racing you?

That would be trouble. The Highlander is mighty fast!

No offense, but you need to race Sport to begin with. Accumulate 10 points to move to Ex. You'd prolly race Junior Ex. with ConnorMac, Penrose, Mussalem, myself... Most likely you'd get owned, and you do need enough points to race Pro. Either that or enough Top Placings to show the Commitee you know what the F*ck your doing.

But yeah, you need a Top 10 in a Canada Cup to be eligible to race a WC. Good luck with that:rolleyes:

Extremely hard to get WC points. A top 10 in a national race is near impossible unless you're in the top already.

Don't be in a rush to get to pro. It can be dejecting at times. You can have a really fast run, then you dab your foot, and your 5 placings back. Learn how to go fast first. Even if you feel fast right now, that doesn't mean you'll be fast in pro.

...and you need 15 points to get from expert to pro, and experts' a fast class.

So basically, you're agreeing with me. You didn't do your first race in expert, because you had some race results from previous races. Once you'd shown you could be competitive in expert using past races, you upgraded.

I might race slalom/bikercross, or whatever they have at sun peaks, so look out while you're there, I'll be on your dome :)

...for about .5 seconds, and then be owned shortly after. :lol:

I've heard of that several times. If you are either a XC racer or you are known as being quick, then you can kiss the right ass to start out in a higher class.

That's why Wade can come out once a year or two and race pro.
