As many of you know I was waiting for my 4hun which had been delayed from January to July. Well I thought id go to my LBS to have a chat, maybe get a new hat etc. So I start talking about the 4hun.....and wait for it....NORCO HAS CANCELLED ALL FURTHER SHIPMENTS TO AUSTRALIA! Yay thank yo so much norco. you really made my day  So anyways I was still thinking over my options when this happened so im still not sure what I wanna do.

First option I came up with was take the 125 thats here, and set it up like the 4hun. Well that came out to $600 more than I could get the 4hun for  and I just cant afford that. Now I know many people are gonna come on here and say why dont I just get a Banshee or .243 but remember, Im in Australia people!

So yeah im fucking pissed off at the moment and still dont know what im gonna do.

that blows dude, why did they cancel shipments to australia?
and btw, whats your lbs?

JimmyJ
04-07-2003, 02:55 AM
Im not too sure about why they cancelled it...might be because they just thought it was too late to ship out 2003 models. Dunno. and my LBS is VICMTB.

Id have to research taht first. The main problem is in order to get the warrenty id need to take it back to canada. I cant get it over here if I buy it over there.

Dude, I sent you an email before. The offer still stands. And, we are looking for an Australian distributor. This is for Cove Bikes in case you're wondering. Hand made in Canada (yay!). Having ridden most of the other stuff guys are talking about in this thread, I'd say the .243 is the nicest frame in the bunch. They're all Taiwan, but......

Steel is so real.

I'd say email this thread to Norco. Squeeky wheel gets the grease, and make yourself heard. it's the only way things will change.

You will get a lot more done for you, and a lot more answers by taking it upon yourself to either phone and ask for customer service, or by typing out an email clearly explaining your situation to them directly.

I understand you are frustrated, but airing that out here is not going to do much for you beyond possibly yielding a generally addressed answer like last time.

No company is going to ignore a comprehensible, rational concern. Attacking them, complaining on public bulletin boards and pointing fingers will only get you ignored and dismissed. You will get a lot farther by making them WANT to help you and your unique situation.

dude call the Cove and order a custom stiffee sl, it's hand made in Canada, and it's basically the bike Norco copied when they built the "hun" bikes, plus the oversized BB thing is beat.

The cove bike is amazing for everything, and you can build it any way you like. If you ordered one in January you would have had it in January.

dude that totally sucks about norco, I love norco and cant really bash them cause they have been good to me!! This seems really weird what they are doing, I think norco needs to let everyone know what the hell is up with the bikes this year. Here in prince george, bc we don't have that problem. Our local norco has a shitload of bikes. Did you ask your lbs when they ordered their bikes from Norco, maybe they were late with their order to norco and they couldn't supply your lbs with the bikes. Well whatever happens I hope you can find a bike!!!!!:D

This is true, but if enough people go public with it, and a lot have on here alone, something is bound to happen, look at the thread Cam started in response to that. Mind you, that didn't really accomplish much, but if Norco realises that they maybe losing a lot of customers forever, they may change their ways.

ut I'm also a big fan of lenghty, wordy letters sent to big important people, with threats of never buying anything from them again :);)

E-mail might work, although when I e-mailed Marin every day for two weeks last year I got zero responses. (I don't know why:D ) I kept calling and eventually they came through.

Anyways, call Norco and bitch. Like Derek said about the squeeky wheel thing, keep on them and you'll get results. And yeah, tell them you'll never, ever consider buying one of their bikes again.

i can tell you right now shipping to aussie is ridiculous! just to ship my RM7 frame which i had made pretty small by disconnecting the linkage so that it would fold up smaller it still cost me $265 to ship it to australia. not cheap at all.

Ok I just called Norco Australia and heres what they said. Norco Canada had contacted them litterally yesterday and said that they would not be able to ship out the bike until June which means that they would not get here till July, which is start of the 2004 season. On top of that they said that because of this (i dont know why :???: ) they said the price would be considerably larger. So basically Australia got maybe 10% of their 2003 range :(

corey@nsmb.com

That's too bad you guys don't get the supply we do. On the flip side, it's kinda what you have to expect when you live in a place that is so far from the location they are sold.

Example: I read Dirt magazine. Every second page has some rad product out of the UK, and tons of suspension tuners and clothing places. There is some stuff I see in there that is just sooo deadly. BUT, its super hard to get over here in BC. If you can actually get it, shipping costs and exchange will make it so expensive that it just makes no financial sense to buy it.

Too bad, because there are a ton of products I'd love to get my hands on, and i'd love to take my suspension to Mojo Suspension Tuning, but it is just not feasible.

All you can do is buy what you can and hope the industry grows to a point where we can all have affordable and timely access to parts from all over the world. Better distribution would be nice.

I didn't mean to bag on ya. All I meant was that your problem seems pretty limited to your personal situation. If it was anywhere near an epidemic, you can be sure Norco would not be selling in the numbers they do, and that local BC shops would not have what you need.

A unique problem will have more of a chance of being addressed if you take it upon yourself to deal with it as an individual. The guy on the other end of the phone calling the shots is just like you. Be friendly and explain yourself and he'll likely want to help out.

Calling it bullshit on a webpage that you can be sure he sees, and then phoning the next day is likely going to make him not want to help, and make it that much easier for him to say "sorry dude, can't help" than to take that extra step and go a step beyond to consider how he can maybe work something out for you.

It is not a conspiracy to not deal with down under  There is probably a lot more on the business side of things that you don't see that complicate things.

I agree that it sucks when you can't get what you want. I guess my point was (and I am only tryin to help out!) is that you are probably better off to handle it one on one.

I see a ton of guys bitch here about Fox Shocks and their service. When I screwed mine up (my fault, I busted off a rebound knob), and then it got mismatched when it was in for service, I tried every route with the service branch and unfortunately, I had no luck getting helped out to a point where I was satisfied. Recognizing that a service depot is NOT Fox, nor do they reflect Fox USA's service, I thought I'd try going right to the horse's mouth.

Before I could finish laying out my story, I had the guy asking my weight, bike model and the shock dimensions, and my home address, to send me a brand new, hand built RC (a year newer than my old one) to my door. That is service.

Taking your time and being patient works. Best of luck to ya!

And I know you are gonna get the shits at me for saying this, but your problem is that you've limited yourself to this one bike, and you've got your heart set on it. I know its a bummer and all, but I think you need to face reality and start looking at other bikes/framesets. I know it sucks but I don't think you're gonna have any luck with the 4hun man :(

Ok well first thing I did when I woke up this morning was to call them. And they responded. But unfortunatly no matter how I pleaded my case they simply said theres nothing that they could do. They just arent shipping the bikes over here.

Oh and I called it bullshit because my first thread was entitled "this is complete bullshit" and that was when I couldnt get ANYTHING out of Norco australia and I had no idea what was going on.

The main thing that I dont understand is why does canada get plenty of bikes (from what I understand theres 3 4huns sitting in john henrys) when we cant even get more than 50% of our first run of bikes cancelled? Sure people might say "Well Australia is far away" but theres gotta be a better reason than that.

Who knows, maybe if you hang out for the 2004 range, it might even be sweeter than the '03 range.....like i said "Who knows?"

or there is a 2002 4hun for 2500 at brunswick street cycles (http://www.brunswickstreetcycles.com.au)
2003 125's are going for 1550 at melbourne bicycle center (http://www.mbcbikes.com.au/)

no worries man, I'll post up the response as soon as I get it.

As far as other frames, I'm still undecided between steel and aluminium which leaves alot of choice out there.

So far I am looking at Banshee Morphine, DMR Trailstar and Sidekick, Balfa Minuteman, Norco 5hun, 243 and the Le Toy III.

Designed in Canada. Assembled in Langley, BC.

norco aus is fucked ive had nothing but shit from them i rang them up last july asking them about price for an 03 a line and they went off at me saying that no nes sposed to know it exists they got the manager on to find out where i got my sources whos been leaking it and all this shit they were on the phone for like half an hour and it was at STD rates my olds were pissed... oh and id got the inffo from on here and in the end they wouldnt tell me the price they were to retail for...

i saw a norco 125 (i think...) in a bike shop dosent look too bad at all...

those dmr rythams new are like 1200 thats with all dmr parts and hayes front disc single speed and riged forms if i was you id get that givew the froks back to the shop and buy a set of somethings for the front dj1s or something if you can find them cheap...

if you want a 4hun i wouldnt hesitate to get one sent down from canada if iwa s you... my friend did it from cove bike store for an old kona stinky dee (that weird co,oured one) and hes cracked it 2 times and cove has sent him a new rear end as a straight swap for the old one that was cracked once and then they split shipping for the parts so ift cost him 20bucks to have a new rear end in 2 weeks!!!!!

i dunno if it was through cove bike shop itself or through some person who bought it from cove (the bike was brand new) on behalf of him

Jimmy: the Banshee Morphine frame is $1450 AUD......pretty steep price IMO, I thought it would be alot cheaper....like maybe around the $1100 mark. Normally I would just discard something I thought was way overpriced, but the damn thing looks so good! and I bet it rides even better, so its still in the running for me hehe

yeah 1450 is way too expensivefor me. I think im probably gonna go with the DMR if Norco doesnt get back to me soon. Its such a nice bike and at a good price too :)

 That's a huge markup!

I understand the 4hun is what you really want, but perhaps you should look at what's available to you as Norco is obviously a lost cause in Australia.

Are you really set on a SS setup? Because if you aren't, there are a lot of good deals on hardtails.

1,450.00 AUD = 1,277.02 CAD

That's one expensive hardtail frame.

I'd let Pip know about that. It don't seem right.:???:

he is who i got chelseys 4hun through. great guy, fast business, and makes good on anything broken upon shipping....

i know you dont want to have to have things shipped to you, but if you have your heart set on a 4hun, just have one shipped...

the dmr is a great bike, but if you are set on a bike(4hun), then get that bike...dont settle on something that will only make you happy for a short period of time...

i feel for you...i wish i could do something for you that made the situatiion better for ya....but all i can offer you is matt's contact at sbc...(hell ship anywhere)

Thanks for that Sean! But the problem is money. I was thinking about shiping a 4hun over but the charges that I will incur is just too great. $1700 CAD for the bike + 15% tax. Then bringing it into the country I get an extra 10% duty and 5%tax. It just works out to too much. It seems that the only option I have left is the DMR.

What about Kona? They seem more dialed-in to the international market. Plus their freeride hardtail line is sick.

Oh, and I didn't read the thread, so my bad if someone already suggested this. :)
