Start with DVD Decrypter, find this for free. Then... I dunno, I've forgotten what I used to convert to .avi or other... didn't work for me the last time I tried. DVD Decrypter worked for most DVDs that I tried it with, but it may not work with everything.

Rip and compresss, so you can fit more movies on the laptop. Think "shrink DVD" and "Google".

Otherwise just ISO that puppy and then mount up the image.

Then buy a new laptop, due to the implosion caused by ripping a DVD to a laptop.

It needs to be .mp4 file format.

If you're on a Mac these are the only two apps you'll ever need.

For converting DVD's to .mp4

For converting downloaded .avi files to .mp4

Why don't you just buy a CD case and bring the DVDs with you or DL some torrents for the same movie? I just don't see much point in wasting that much time Decoding and encoding video.........

Download torrents, all the work done for you and they are typically 700 MB files so you can store plenty on your hard drive.

wonder if downloading a torrent of a movie you already own is illegal? Sure the upload is, but the download?
