we wanna do this tomorrow, some beta please.

is the trailhead right in the wedgemount trailhead parking lot? like near the outhouse or what?

i'm thinking about parking in whistler and riding to the trailhead at wedgemount. how much time does that tack on? an hour? i don't think shuttling two vehicles would save much time.

any recommendations on parking and what trails to take in the lost lake area?

thanks

take the green lake trail to the entrance of CN that will be I guess a good warm up... that way you can even hit some lost lake loop trails (if you think you have enough legs for every thing...)

Trail head is right at the highway turnoff. Cross the bridge and it is just left at the fork in the road I believe. There is a large sign warning you what you are getting into. Maybe 50m in from the highway. Don't know lost lake trails. Don't remember highway time, maybe 30 or 40 minutes. Have fun!

Its about 20-30 minutes on the road from the day parking lot to the trail head.

There's an outhouse there? Take the wedgemount road, cross the bridge, turn left, up the road you'll see the trailhead on the right after a short climb. Once you're on it its hard to get lost.

The road is a nice warm up.

The trail should take you 5 hours at a nice pace, with pictures. Tomorrow should be a good day for it!

we've got legs and we know how to use them...

thanks for the info, everyone. the outhouse i was thinking of is at the garibaldi park wedgemount lake trailhead, but luckily we don't have to go that far.

I've only ever hit CN using the shuttle option. I couldn't imagine biking out to the start but I have friends who think nothing of adding on a few extra KMs by riding out. Although it isn't the longest ride I've done, it is the most tiring.

Whether you take 1 car or 2, park at Spruce Grove parking lot (where the ball fields are) instead of the day lots. If you know the Lost Lake trails to any extent you can almost coast from the end of CN to the Spruce Grove parking lot, plus it's closer to the Wedge parking lot if you do bike out. Then again, I'm usually tired by the time I'm done CN.

The green Lake Loop sucks balls. Its not even remotely interesting.

Riding the road out to the trailhead at CN shouldn't even begin to make you break a sweat.

If you really feel manly and you want to get as much singletrack in as possible then do Cut Yer Bars first then road ride out to Emerald then head up to Section 102 -> Kill Me Thrill Me -> CNumb.

Park in the village. You'll come out from CN - head on to Tin Pants and will be out in no time.

Lee is bang on about the Green Lake Loop.

If you take Section 102 make sure to stop and check out the famous Mushroom House.

It's funny how whenever I think I'm in fairly good biking shape, Lee pipes up and I remember that I suck. I can't even begin to imagine what kind of combo platter of steroids, meth & pain killers I'd need to do to contemplate Cut Yer Bars/Section 102/KMTM/Comfortably Numb in one go.

did the KMTM to CN "Lite" loop on thanksgiving... was so wet at the higher elevation climbs that the loam started getting chewed up due to traction issues... did CN "lite" as i like to call it - used the BCBR exit after the bridge... someone refresh my memory - is that about at or just past 1/2 way of CN?

That's not half way from my understanding. You still have to go back along the green lake loop so I'm not sure how much shorter it really is!

you people know your shit! it took us exactly 5 hours to do the trail from start to finish and we took minimal breaks. just enough time to consume some calories, but barely any time to take pictures because we were on a timeline.

we took the green lake loop trail and it sucked. it was hard to find, steep in spots, and way slower than the highway, taking us almost an hour to get to the CN trailhead from spruce grove park.

conditions were prime yesterday, bit of moisture on the woodwork, but not slippery. it was cold though.

wicked trail, where else can you get hours of sustained singletrack climbing around here... (PM me)

Last time I did it,alone, after Thrill Me Kill Me, there were big bear tracks, fresh looking going in my direction. That's was interesting!

kill me thrill me -> CN -> noodling around lost lake = the best ride ever. well maybe not quite as it still leaves you with tons of day light, but it's pretty efin good.

green lake loop = hear what lee is telling you.

I've done the CN / Young Lust loop several times which I guess is what you are referring to. The only time it took anywhere near 2 1/2 hours is when I was with someone who pushed their bike up....and then all the way down...so I can't imagine the turn off being anywhere near the halfway point but I might be wrong. I don't know as given the choice of riding all of CN or covering my balls with honey and running at a Grizzly, I know which I'd choose....."Open wide big fluffy bear....".

If you're referring to the turn off approximately 2km past the main bridge...you only made it around 1/3 the way. CN is 24km, the bridge is approximately 6km. There's signage for both the mid-point and highest point (approx 16km or 2/3 the way).

Maniacs. I did the full epic combo of Cut Yer Bars, KMTM, 102, CN a few years back and I thought CN was one of the dullest trails I've ever ridden. I kept thinking that it would get better. But in the end it stayed the same, it just got dark.

Everyone I know personally who's ridden it think the same as how I think about about the first section that I've ridden. Up a bit....down a bit....left a bit....right a bit....up....down...yawn....repeat to fade.... But then I don't like any of the Whistler XC 'classics'. I'd rather suffer for an hour or whatever on one long continuous climb and have an awesome DH (Gargamel, Billys etc....) than ride all the meandering stuff that everyone else seems to love (River, Big K, 102, KMBoreM etc :)

I know plenty of mountain bikers who think it's a better run than ride....

it's hard to explain . . . i love the trail , and i have huge respect for the builder and all the work that went into it , particularly the design and alignment , but i just find i can get a better groove on without the bike .

even though there are some good sections both up and down , there never seems to be a point where you just gotta come back and do it again .

as a run though , the grades uphill and downhill are perfect , and the trail is just technical enough to keep you focused , the layout keeps you entertained , and the surfaces / foot placements are easy on the body .

than ride all the meandering stuff that everyone else seems to love (River)

haha ok some of my best memories of when I first started riding like 6 years ago are of riding River. Back when my stuff jr was considered awesome and we dared eachother to ride across the log over the river. That trail made us feel so hardcore haha
still pretty fun I think, mess around on all the structures.

every type of trail has something to offer. you either dig that about riding or you stay home and keep riding the same trails again and again. to me the best part about CN IS the lack of pay off. hard to understand perhaps.

I remember a racer girl telling my why she didn't like to ride to the top of the local trails, because she could run up them faster. I figured she'd missed the point.

You rode up the rockfaces? or

you can ride a lot more of the stuff than you think, but no, some of the main faces are push up.....the climb up foreplay though is tricky and tech, and I like that kinda stuff....it's what we used to do before CN was finished! BCBR cutout is super fun, but it does dump you at the bottom of the last steep climb up GLL, everyone bitches and moans about it, I don't mind it so much, I like the high speed, loose babyhead descending, stay loose!
