I faithless, as some members refer to me on this site as "the piece of shit low life" bought your bike off a hobo last night.

Or whatever is left of it.

PM some details about your bike.

Anyways, props to you for trying to help someone else out.

Have you already called the police with the serial number?

There are a LOT of riders who this message won't get to.

Kudos for trying to reunite someone with their bike though.

or just give it to the police.

if you don't you're in possesion of stolen property (assuming it is indeed stolen) if it wasn't you just stole some hobo's bike.

I've got a dollar says this bike doesn't even exist.

How sweet would it be if it turned out that the guy who's bike it was was also the guy that called you a piece of shit. I'd rub that in his face for a month before returning it to him covered in Vaseline.

Assuming it'll just end up at some police auction.

I have gone through all necessary means of finding an owner (craigslist, nsmb etc...)

Honestly I could have not posted anything, kept the bike for my self and build it up, but I'm waiting at least a month before I start building it.

Definitely an interesting post.

I do not think, no matter how hard I tried to find the actual owner, that I could ride a bike that I knew was stolen from another rider.

I wonder how many hours of policing are paid for each year by police auctions, proceeds of crime forfeitures, tickets and fines instead of tax dollars. Probably a lot less then I think.

You should at least call the police and say you purchased a bike that you think might be stolen and give them the serial number.

Also, pics or it didn't happen...

Going through all necessary means would be reporting it to the police to see if the serial number has been reported stolen.

Anything less is just posession of stolen property.

Lots of people ride bikes and never surf the internet.

Is that how low you can get? Just return the bike to the police, if it is not claimed in 30 days it's yours. No one really cares if you are trying to redeem yourself, just keep stroking your own ego. Do the right thing.

Buzom

So basically, you bought this bike with full intention of building it up and riding it. But once it was built up you wanted to post it here and brag; to avoid having someone claim the bike once you have built it you post this thread and make sure no one from nsmb once owned this bike. Does this sound about right?

It's no different than that bike rescue guy,who has turned out to be legit....or the craigslist ad's posted by the good guy that buys the obviously stolen bike from a gypsy for next to nothing with intentions of finding the right ful owner.

where does it all end then?

Wouldnt the police then be in possesion of stolen property?

Are police auctions a "legal" fencing operation?

Why should police departments profit from the proceeds of crimes?

BikeRescue guy is not 'legit'. He's a fence. pure and simple.

But he does theoretically contact the police with make/model/serial numbers which is the minimum amount of effort that should be made. If Faithless hasn't done that, then I have to agree with DaveM.

if he posts pictures some asshat will claim that it's their's. he needs the description/serilanumber to give it back...

turning it into the police isn't gonna do a thing. do you think they acutally care enough to do anything about it?

No you haven't. Right now you are no better than the piece of shit that stole the bike. If the owner reported the bike stolen, then the Police will have the serial number on file and it will be returned. All your doing is covering your ass so can justify keeping a $3000 bike that you paid $20 for. Here is a link to the St.John's Telegram, http://www.thetelegram.com/, now take out a classified ad stating you found a stolen bike in Vancouver and you'll have all your ducks in a row.

HIBuLlitT
08-30-2008, 01:45 PM
Contact the police, period. If it is not claimed you should be able to keep it instead
of it going to auction, no?

Like has said before, if you don't call the cops and you think the bike is stolen,
you are a thief. If you are caught with this bike, and they find out about this
thread or your craigslist postings, then you are in possession of stolen goods....

knowingly.

yeah, we can really see that from the first post. super super cereal!1!!!
you're only going to get flamed for owning a stolen mountainbike with intent to build it, on a mountainbike forum.

go to the cops, hand it over.
