so who will it be?
seems like trek will be stepping up their DH presence, only question is....who and how many.
hope Specialized steps it up too and it could be an interesting year from a manufacturer/brand perspective.

Sam Hill?
This is the news (well some of it) that we have all been waiting for. The Press Release (below) is now in and has made it all official. Trek and 23 Degrees Sports Management (think Honda, Global, etc.) have joined forces to run an all-new team for the 2009 season. We can tell you that Trek are taking this very seriously and that you can expect at least one MASSIVE pro rider on the team. Speculation as to who that rider will be will be setting the global forums on fire. When you think of Trek you think of Lance Armstrong. I'll leave it to you work out who the equivalent downhill racer could be! Here's the full Press Release
It sure sounds like thats what they're wanting people to believe so far.

Any chance it could be Steve Peat?
Good to hear that Trek is getting back in the DH racing scene.

"There are rumours that the team is talking to two-time world downhill champion Sam Hill and current women’s world downhill champion Rachel Atherton, although no riders have been confirmed yet."

can't see the Athertons splitting up, as there whole career has been based on them staying together as a team

I'm guessing it HAS to be Steve Peat, or Sam Hill, just because they've actually won it more than once.

of course enough money changes anything, but they have always been very vocal that they want to be signed as a team. that fact has been well known for sometime and i believe for awhile they rode privately just so they could stay together.
IMO, if i was wanting to make a serious name for my brand, i would sign all three.....just as they are now.
but, who knows.....money talks.

"So what is your biggest accomplishment to date (riding or other)?
Well riding is my life, so winning the Worlds was a pretty big deal. Getting to where the three of us are, having our own team, making our way in racing is huge. We just bought our first house together back home – so that is pretty rad. It's amazing to have a team where we all work together and support each other. I'd like to see more high profile teams in the sport and hopefully what we are doing will help pave the way for others."

i hear you and don't disagree entirely but if you were trek's team organizer, who would you throw money at on the women's side of things? jonnier? mosley? or the 20 year old who's winning everything and has a marketable personality and bright future?
of course, all of the names being bandied about could be pure speculation (and hope) from trek / 23 degree insiders... it'll be interesting to see how it plays out, that's for sure.

Man, the racing scene gets more exciting by the day! This is way more fun than following whoever's done the most flips.

That would be money well spent, so much exposure with the three of them.

if you were trek's team organizer
rachel will be or already is the next Anne-Caroline Chausson, if one wants a winning team she would be the one to get.
if it was me and i had a big budget....i would get her and her 2 brothers. they, as a family, are a total package when it comes to gravity mtb sports. dh and 4 cross in both male and female cat's.....
curious as to how the athertons do at the upcoming redbullrampage.....it's been reported that they have already been scouting lines down in utah....
