Saw this on their web site.

Due to these construction and access requirements, we will not open the Cypress Bike Park for the Summer of 2008.

We do plan to continue Mountain Bike Trail construction this summer and are looking for any volunteers to join the Trail Crew. If that is of interest to you please send your resume to jobs@cypressmountain.com

Looks like the bike park is still alive and kicking. Anyone know if Digger or any others are working on the trails up there?

Cypress is also looking for feedback here: http://www.cypressmountain.com/bike/index.html

Cypress wants feedback ?

PLz for the luv of all things holy, PLZ reopen ur bike park when u can..

if ever there was a need for a closer option then Whistler it is now.. with gas prices being as they are a option for lift access riding would be a welcome addition..

not to mention while the original bike park may have been small what was there was a nice starter..better then Whistler when it first opened (yes ive been around that long)...

a nice suprize would be a bike park that made use of both sides of the Cypress bowl.. that would be wicked...

Strachan would be awesome! But they can only use Black.

Nice to see they're planning ahead! Probably won't happen until after the olympics though.

Digger can go build his one hit wonders, and wood structures off in the bush. get someone who has Park trail experience. whistler usually loans them out to other parks. getting a network of trails that flow and that you can carry your speed through would be awesome.

Hmmm
I really liked the one trail in particular that had the flow and some really nice sweeps and jumps along it. I have no idea what it's name was, what I do know is that it was super fun and could've rode all day long. For a semi blue run kinda guy that dabbles in some black, that trail made me smile.

If you think that the one-hit wonders are all Digger does, then you're either trolling or are just a fool. If it wasn't for the work that Todd has done all over the shore, every trail would be a 5' trench with multiple lines like the bottom of 5th. All the rocks that are 1-3' under the trails we ride on every day and the foundation of the trails (literally) are thanks to the countless thankless backbreaking hours that Digger has put in over the years. Get a clue dude and have some respect!

would gladly pass 500bux for a season pass at cypress, if it was at par w/ whistler.
Hell, the gas price/accomodation alone would save me 500.

I've never had teh chance to ride that park, but from looking at the pictures, it seems rad. I'd love to hit that place up one day when it re-opens

you're both right.

the main thing is that to many people, at some point building one hits right near roads begins to outweigh all the positive things a person has done. and I do think Digger has probably contributed more directly to the Shore trails than anyone else.

agreed...

everything the Shore is and has become is because of what Todd created.. while i personaly dont care for wood-filled stunt trails. i still respect teh untold hours of sweat and pure grunt labour Todd puts into the local hills..

not to forget the countless other trail builders aswell... but this reply is about Todd in particular..

p.s. when is Todd gunna have a release party for his NSX films ?? that party would be the MTB event of a lifetime...

I'll add to this that Cypress was the first bike park that I rode and the trails up there for that one and only season were great fun, flowy with all kinds of creative and unusual features along them. Digger did a great job that year, and anyone who rides with me will confirm that I lament the continued closure of the Cypress Bike Park regularly.

Can they put in some groomed trails ? It would be pretty hurting to have to pay for a bunch of rough north shore type trails.

$30,000 for 1 km to build a groomed trail... nothing beats a natural trail when it flows imo. There's enough groomed trails around bike parks these days.

also, what defines a north shore type trail ? I sure hope its not CBC. CBP and nothing like that thank god. I pretty much ride nothing but steep knarly natural trail and thats North Shore to me.

Having Cypress open up a quality bike park would take alot of strain off the north shore trails as well. I would probably get a seasons pass, I can see myself spending a day or two a week there.

Nope, I had different hobbies when it was open.

When I pay to go to whistler or silverstar, I ride the groomed trails. Techy root filled trails are fine, but I can ride those for free and they are already easily accessible. If it was a park full of typical stuff that you see on seymour or fromme, I'll just save the $40 lift ticket and ride those instead.

The reason Matt quizzed you is because Cypress bike park was all groomed trails except for one

True story. All I hear about when we ride is the good ol' days of Cypress bike park :)

I hope they get it together and open up a park; I never got to ride their park when it was open so that gives me something new to check out.

I for one would love to have lift accessed shore trails and would pay 40 bucks for it any day.

That being said, I never shuttle the shore and always climb to the trail head. The great thing about a lift accessed park is that trail maintenance is less of an issue, because the lift ticket covers full time trail workers' wages.

I'm with darth, lift accessed shore trails on the local mountains would take a lot of pressure off the public trails and I for one would pay happily.

The park was very noob freindly. But if they want to atract dollars they need to build an Aline. That's what the kids want these days.

I'm not into bike parks myself but as far as they go cypress was pretty weak

I urge ANYone who's considering volunteering for the Cypress trail crew to reconsider. The NSMBA (or whatever they're called these days) is a MUCH more deserving organization to receive your free labour.

Asking for trail crew volunteers for a park that hasn't been open for years (and likely won't be for years more) is pretty lame IMO.

Is cypress owned by intrawest ? I fail to see how there would be budget problems @ Cypress when they can get Silverstar running smoothly and maintain the trails at a level we don't even see at whistler.

I had a day riding Cypress bike park in July 05 when it was open, and it was a blast, the trails had a good flow and some interesting features to keep even more experienced riders interested

and got to meet The Digger, which was a bonus ;)

I remember chatting to him as he was watering down one of the last berms at the bottom, i wonder if that was the same day. :)

I also remember the park to have good flow and fun features and was pretty good value, especially considering that it was the first year they were open. I can only drool over what it would be like after 10+ years of development.

Cypress was a sweet park. I would always find myself on the same one or two trails, but they were super fun. The section with 3 wall rides back to back was dope. The bridge table was sweet as was the one section with steep pitches and deep berms. Almost felt like being on a roller coaster. And the best part was no one was there. Traffic on the trails was a non-issue. I'm glad there's a lot of Cypress BP haters. It kept the traffic down and may do so again if they ever reopen.

I think there is a movement afoot to promote bike parks like WBP, Sunpeaks etc. & community bike parks in order to keep bikers out of the forest. The Ernie Crists of the world will say we can go there & stay out of the bush.

I loved that one with the steep rolls and the flowy berms! So freakin' fun! Another bonus was the super short lift ride up, I must have done twenty-plus runs when I was up there, never a line at the bottom either...I really hope they open it up again.
