So I got my bar crossed up on some loose dirt on saturday, causing me to jam my bar into my groin, the result was a damaged vein and a large hematoma from the internal bleeding. A couple of days later and the swelling is starting to go down and the discoloration is starting to show.

I googled it and it sounds intriguing. I'm a little concerned because (and it's probably me being paranoid) the swelling doesn't seem to have gone down. This injury has freaked me out more than any other, and I want to make sure I'm trating it right, so I may go for a follow up at the docs tonight.

Just recently took a bar end to the lower abdomen. When it happened i was sure my guts were gonna come spilling out, but they didn't. Went to the doc cuz I thought maybe there was a hernia, but turned out to be a big nasty subdural hematoma. You most likely have one too.
It will heal slowly, but likely not hurt too much.
I am real leary of the bars now, rofl.

Doesn't hurt too much but given it's location it does restrict movement a little. How long is a while? 1 week, 1 month? longer?

I get enough scrapes and bruises, this one is different. According to the doctor last night, the bruise will probably spread to my ankle, and the lump from the hematoma will last until the end of the year. I think that's rather photo worthy.

Firstly sorry to read/see your injury! Best of luck getting it healed up. Not sure what tricks you're employing to help it flush out. I've had a lot of tissue inflammation steadily to address from a $!#load of chemo in my past (systems overdone easily) and some things I've found very helpful are:
-Arnikaid, pricey cream (at Choices Grocery & other places) that's great at helping mobilize fluid flow and bone healing (even taught in massage training)
-Wobenzyme (enzymatic supplement/much cheaper in US/2nd most sold item in Germany next to Aspirin supposedly), greatly reduces inflammation - you can triple the does during injury periods, lots of testing's been done (gassy side effect at high doses)
-**Inflammazyne, favourite of mine, supplement of natural items you take midpoint of a meal, has ginger etc
-ginger, eating/raw/cooked/capsules etc, can't see how one can go wrong with it
-massage to enhance fluid flow
-**hot/cold treatments, icing down your leg (ie. garden hose on thigh to chill leg/it shrinks maximally then warms up/each sequence is a flush), sticking leg in first thing cold shower water...finish with cold on your leg, if you have a hand held shower it's a LOT easier
-**not sure what doc says, but keeping it warm typically (ie. boxers/tights under shorts/pants) day and night will help
-lots of rest and drinking tons of water, often my worst two to utilize
Just a few off hand, good luck with it!
PM/email/post if any questions related.

Not really.
I earned on on my left thigh a few years ago in a Premier soccer match. Hurt like hell at the time, but with three accupuncture therapy threatments, and a lot of hot baths w/ epson salts, was on the field and playing 90 minutes the next week. In pain, mind you, but the running makes it a much higher impact sport than pedalling.
Yes, still have a nice, hard lump on my thigh. Such is life.
But, hey- you managed to get 4 pages out of it.

wow are you a doctor?
guess what but there are many different levels of hematoma. you just didn't have one that was very serious if you were only out for a week. actually you probably didn't even have a real hematoma by the sounds of it.
when i had mine i couldn't pedal a complete pedal stroke for almost 4 weeks. and this wasn't a full hematoma and i didn't need my leg drained like many with worse conditions do.
and biggles looks WAY worse than mine.
seeing as the guy likely won't be pedalling or riding a bike for a couple of months i really think you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
I may or may not know what I'm on about. My injury on the pitch was bad enough that first air present originally thought it could have been a fractured femur. That being said, seeing these "poor me" threads is getting tired.

would you rather it be warm and soft or cold and wet like dog turd in the wet fall/spring months?
i dunno about you but i'd rather pick up frozen or summer heat dried out hard dog turd than cold soft and wet ones.
speaking of which, some dog owner left a heaping pile right in the middle of the landing on one of the jumps at the shed a couple of weeks ago. some poor kid (8 years old maybe) road right down the middle of it and had it kick up off his wheels and on to his leg and batman t shirt. he was pretty upset when i got there and his mom was not too happy either. cute as heck but man, poor kid. i took a stick to move it outta the way as my good act of the month.

yup lump(almost like a ball) does last awhile.
is the leg swollen, or just bruised.
Erm, I'm not showing off any injury, unless I somehow posted pictures of a bruise I totally forgot about.
Unless you want that ingrown ass hair / pimple, or ball bump photo. I will accompany with the following verbiage: "Poor me, give me sympathy, love me."
It's not about being hard, it's all about the trolling for sympathy type threads that pop up here all the time. Tired.
At least in her thread she was legitimately looking for some expectations on recovery, etc. She didn't come accross as a sympathy seeker.
However, carry on if you must. Maybe update us when the ankle starts turning orange. Baited breath.
But hey, I'll comply and stay out of your "poor me" thread.

I still can't find the part where I asked for sympathy, so I don't know what the hell you are on about. I got injured, the results are definitely not something that you see every day, I posted the picture.
So next time I make a breakthrough in something that I haven't been able to ride, then I assume I can't post about it unless I give you instructions on how it's done because it's just me looking for a pat on the back? It's the same thing.

Good to see you out this morning Steve! T'was a great little rip. Man that leg thing sure is fugly in person. How's the leg after the climb today?
Here's my fiancee's cuts from earlier today, first time she's been on the bike for a while, she's quite pleased with herself, had forearm/elbow pads but they slid up so they might get binned. Also landed on her head apparently.
