OK - I did the "search" thing on this forum and it looks like I have found a place to stay (Hornby Island Diving Lodge) - now I just need to know:

- where are the trails
- Norco Six or Norco Bigfoot with 5" fork
- where to eat

I'm heading over for the weekend solo.

Cheers!

there should be a little bike shop right near the Co-Op and he probably has trail maps. if i recall correctly the trails start not that far away from that little hub area, and they're a lot of fun - very xc but i think there's a trail "no horses" that used to have a couple of small hucks. lucky you! i haven't been to hornby for almost 7-8 years now :( and i really miss it.

oh and a smaller bike - last time i was there i was on a devinci hucker with 5" fork and it was fine. there's some climbing involved.

4 dead aliens & No horses.

Those trails were so much fun. Climb isn't that bad at all.

Great people and yeah bigchin... great guy!

See you later in the summer Doug!

Hey

Call me when you get here (335.3444)and I'll show around a bit. Was just up the other night clearing out a fallen tree and the trails are absolutely MINT right now. So much fast, flowy fun you'll never want to leave.

The Co-op has lots of food and a liquor store.

Hornby Dive lodge is run by my good buddies Rob and Amanda. Great people.

Oh ya... Bring your lightest bike. No need for anything big.

Hey - I'm up for one more ride tomorrow after breakfast. Meet at the coop? 10 ish?

I did three laps today - it was sooo nice!

Lap 1 - up Slade Road to Colt's Foot, Washing Machine, Northwind, Cold Deck and Slalom then down Four Dead Aliens - Test Tube - Chris and Brad's and No Horses - I :woot: ed the whole way down!

Lap 2 - back up the same way with the exception of a "hike-a-bike" along Cliff Trail from the top of Cold Deck - then down Ridge to Bench for lunch at the Thatch. Both were super fun - Ridge was a little more techy and sketchy and then Bench was just let-er-rip big ring craziness!

Lap 3 - from thatch I took the Ford's Cove double track - up Central to Strachan to Summit then down "The Way" all the "way" to the bottom - it was like a never ending pump track!!

Had Pizza at the cardboard house and now I am very tired and ready to sleep!

Just got back from a ride with rewoga. We did another two laps up the mountain. Rode 4 Dead top to bottom, then back up to do Hot Rims and finished up the new Slickrock. Fast... fast... fast...

Good to meet ya and thanks for the ride. Now I'm back to shoveling out the trench to bury my electrical cable :(

i was at the last one (10th i think). it'd be cool if they brought that back.

i was at the last one (10th i think). it'd be cool if they brought that back.

The problem became that there was more partiers than riders. Hornby just doesn't have the infrastructure (or patience for that matter) to deal with 2000 people coming for a party with no place to stay.

The logistics just got too out of hand. I've talked a bit with Jer about trying it again but as more of a riding thing and less of a party thing. Then we decided that there was not much money to be made and besides, we like the mountain as quiet as it is.

Did you use the tarp showers?

haha no, we stayed in a cabin (well, a shack really) just down from whaling station bay - or something like that, it was on the far side of the island facing out towards the mainland

thebigchin - how about a small nsmb riding party? :D

Four dead aliens makes me happy! Thank's again for the tour - looking forward to riding Hornby again for sure!

Looking forward to my next trip to Hornby - Labour Day weekend. I will be taking my son, so it will be beaches, hiking and "stupid fun shit" all weekend. Maybe he will be on the "run bike" by then!

And remember - you need to ride the Comox Valley!!!
