I was told today that this is the last year for the Mt.7 Psychosis race. So if you ever wanted to do this race, this will be your last chance:cry:

I was told today that this is the last year for the Mt.7 Psychosis race. So if you ever wanted to do this race, this will be your last chance:cry:

Could be true, there could also be future Mt7 Psychosis races - that is unknown at this time. A few things are for sure, it is the last confirmed year for Red Bulls involvement, and it is the last year the race is organized (100%) by the Golden Cycling Club.
The club executive and directorship have decided unanimously that it is time for the club to focus it's attention on other aspects of the sport, like trail development and recognition etc., management agreements and things like that. To further develope and promote the sport of biking in Golden as they have been doing in some form or another for the past decade. Reality is that organizing the Psychosis is an enormous task and takes up most of the clubs time, resources, and income. Time to move forward.
So there is potential for another user group or organizing commitee to step in and continue with the Mt7 Psychosis, to bring you an 11th and beyond.....chances of this happening? I would say quite unlikely.
The Mt7 Psychosis (in my eyes) helped shape the sport as we currently know it, and I am sure inspired events like the Garbanzo DH. Get out here this year for the 10th annual, new race schedule has all 'launch pad' races happening on Saturday to free everyone up for a massive celebration on Saturday night. Even if you don't plan to race get out here to spectate and party, come bid farewell to a legendary event.

ok i am for sure entering now. i was up on the fence before but now i am in.

not really sure what class to enter...

it would be really lame to not be able to hit the road gap in the sport class...

judging by my buddy's time i'd probably be 16:30ish minutes..... oh what to do, what to do?

So...I think I have a good idea of what Psychosis is...but the websites doesn't actually say anywhere.

What mountain/resort is it held on? How long is the course in terms of distance? Good accomodations?

yeah it reallly doesn't give much in terms of details...

its on mount 7 which i understand rises right from the town of Golden.

the course is 4000+ vertical feet and it took sam hill like 13 mins to ride it, so its effing long.

camp or get motel. it's golden and there are tons of places as it is a trucker town on the trans-canada.

as it is a trucker town on the trans-canada.

What is a trucker town exactly? I've lived here a long time and that's the first time I have heard it described as such.....

Anyway - Mt.7 does indeed rise from the valley bottom within the town limits of Golden, it creates one edge of town really. The shuttle staging area and course finish are about half a km south of Golden off Highway 95....heading south out of Golden take your first left, Reflection Lake Rd. That is Mt.7 staring down on you.
It's not a resort and there are no chair lifts, old fashioned logging road accessed dh riding, and lots of it at about 4000 vertical feet.
Lots of accomodation in town but book sooner than later - if you want a camp site, hotel/motel, b&b, cabin or whatever. There is lots going on in Golden in the summer, rafting, golfing, hang gliding, mtn biking and on and on, it is quite common for the accomodations to get pretty full.

im not hating on golden by any means. just saying that is a gateway town on the trans-canada. lots of people (truckers, vacationers, etc) stop overnight as it is a logical place...

i believe it has something to do with redbull not sponsoring next year and the golden cycling club wanting to focus on other things. psychosis is a huge thing and would take up a tonne of budget and time.

Read above post.

Hunter, wasn't implying you were hating on Golden, wondering what you meant by trucker town. Now I understand. You should see it in the winter when the highway closes - upwards of 500 rigs parked on 'the strip' in Golden. Mmmmmm diesel fumes.

Sweet Fcuk all for anything but 1-2-3. I should know I've been 5th/4th/6th the past few years and I've been lucky to get a pat on the back. ha ha. Not bitter, this is my favorite race of all time, but ya payout is only to the 1-2-3 spots
Nice work at worlds btw!!!

Yah I'm not sure exactly this year if it is changing or not...last year I think was 5000 to 1st, 2500 to 2nd and 1000 to 3rd? Might be wrong....it's been a long time since I was in contention. In other news, I have heard talk around town that the ladies purse this year is 2500 or 3000 or something, regardless of # of entrants.....all you lady rippers out there, potential 1 in 10 chance or something for the cash!

Yah the way those 3 ride in this video is just awesome. So on top of their game. Having ridden each section of that trail 50 or something times myself I have nothing but respect for watching it done so right. I can't wait for this race, going to be exciting.

Thats the way it went down and the track was prime, a bit muddy in spots for the practice runs in the morning but by race time it was awsome.

full results now online.....no cash for 4th...I have been saying for years the top 10 should at least be called to the podium for some recognition and a photo opportunity with the winners.....dunno why that doesn't happen.
